That picture is prominently posted in the tech booth at Tucson Dragway, with a caption about this is why they inspect your car.

I expect there's a youtube video somewhere showing that happening. Ugh.

I also expect a google image search will find more about it, if you're interested.

It happened at PPIR here in Fountain Co.
They let cars run the 1/8 mile in grudge matches or just for fun. This guy was lucky he walked away from this. During the last rollover his lower body was hanging out of the windshield.

After watching that a few, sorry to say, I can tell the thing is, at first loose skid and swerve the brakes needed to be hit. They weren't.
Also as the left lane moved on,, a counter steer.
Wasn't gonna, but must admit, the reason I know is,,, B. T. D. That
And used the windshield to exit.

God was on his side. A very lucky man.
Roll Bar and harness should be required.

If I remember when this first happened it was explained that this guy was an experienced racer with a higher class car and he was racing his wife's car for fun. Didn't say if his wife divorced him.

I would be curious to know if he was not wearing a seat belt, or if it came undone.

Kelly Harvey stated "Once (the car) started tumbling, it seemed like it took forever.I just couldn't wait for it to stop. And I think that's why I popped out of the car so fast. I just wanted it to be over."
The father-of-four said he has drag raced possibly one thousand times but never had an accident such as this.
He said he had recently fitted a lap belt to the 1955 car, which did not have a racing seat or a full racing harness.
Harvey admitted he over-corrected when powering down the straight and even clipped the other car.
He said: "It's just a fun cruiser car, not a race car and therefore it was unprepared. I didn't take it as seriously as I should have as far as safety equipment goes."
He said he must have had an "angel riding shotgun.'
He added: "Sunday morning when I saw the video, it really started to kind of hit home a lot more. When I saw the severity of it and how lucky I really was to have gotten out of that alive -- let alone pretty much unhurt."
Despite the major crash Harvey, who drives a tow truck for a living, said he looks forward to going back on the race track.
In a statement released by the Colorado Street Outlaws Drag Racing Event, Harvey said: "My seat belts were not mounted properly and pulled through the floor of the car. I'm grateful to the staff and safety crew at PPIR for such a rapid response to my situation."

Both of those cars went squirrelly early and the guys should have backed out but didn't. He got really lucky but sad to see the destruction of the car.

Awful lot of tire for a cruiser that wasn’t going to race.

There's a cruel irony that the only piece of the car that survived that crash are those dorky bolt-on 10 spoke "spindle mount" wheels.

I think the car had suck rear suspension. 1000 passes and he couldn't mount a seat belt properly?

I've seen too many older rigs with seat belt bolts pulled out and have seen too many with replacement seats that had bolts pull out.
Seats held in with 1/4 inch lag bolts and seat belts held in with 5/16 or 3/8 bolts and small flat washer.

Also not a real dragstrip, its the pit road off a circle track I think. They do the same deal here at Texas Motor Speedway. Friday night lights & dudes push it pretty hard, Ive seen wrecks.
