Hot Rods 15x4/4.5 5 on 5.5 wheels

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by thebearded1!, Sep 12, 2023.

  1. Does anyone out there make a 15x4 or 4.5" wheel with a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern? I've looked a bunch but haven't found any. Just looking for a plain steel wheel

I used adapters to put my 5 on 5 wheels on my truck after changing the front brakes and rear end which are both 5 on 4.5.

    I’ve only seen 5’s.

  4. That's what I was afraid of. I didn't want to use adapters since it's a track roadster style car so it would be very obvious there was spacers and leave a noticeable gap between the wheel and drum.

    Oh well

I have had 6" wide aftermarket and had them cut down. Kind of like reverse banding.

  8. I will keep an eye out for some keep wheels at the local junkyards. I didn't realize keep was 5 on 5.5 I thought it was 5 on 4.5

I got a pair of 15x4's & a pair of 15x5's from them a while back. Freight was very reasonable. They are "AG" rims. No modern "safety beads", (I've heard you can weld nubs on, if you want them). They are exactly the same profile as the '57 wheels I'm replacing.
Jeeps, Samurais, Broncos, (IH Scouts ?), many hay wagons and Ford 1/2 ton trucks all used 5 on 5 1/2. They have the big center hole for the 4x4 locking hub. Most with wider rims. A source for centers though.
My original wheels were riveted. Piece of cake to drill them out and push out the centers. Mike

  14. Also Dodge vans and chevy trackers of all things, these are the dodge van wheels I use for burnout tires.

  15. The reason i'm looking for these rims is someone gave me some brand new 5.60-15 tires and I was going to use them as front runners. Universal tires recommends a 4-4.5" rim width. I may be able to get by with a 5" wide rim but i'm sure it's going to make the tires look bad stretching them wider especially since the tread width is 3.8"

  16. I'm running a pair of 15" on the rear now that I got from a junkyard off a Dodge van. They were 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern though. Maybe it was a smaller van than the one your wheels came from.

  17. Scratch that vw are 8" Ford's are 10.25"

What's the bolt pattern on Ford wide 5 rims? I could possibly use wide 5 adapters with vw rims which are 15x4.5.of.they are the same bolt pattern.

I’ve put 560-15 firestones on 15x5 wheels a few times and never had any issues. Both Blackwall and whitewalls looked/ran just fine.
Pic of last set for the roadster project.

  19. I'm not sure of the rim width but my fronts are 1950 chevy car, with 5.60 x 15's, I was thinking they are 15x5

Mine are Wheelsmith, but they are 15 x 5. That is the smallest they list. If you call them, maybe they will do you some in 4 1/2".
