Do they do a delayed start, or both vehicles leave at the same time?

They can leave when they want. It's just a time run.

You can watch Jim's run here . You need to go to 4:57:10 because I can't post a video with the time in it.

  8. Watch that reaction time Jim, they talked about a new rule (I'm sure you're aware) that penalizes over a 1 second reaction time, they did say they weren't enforcing it today.

Anything over a second RT gets added to the ET. I think because the turbo cars take forever to spool up and they're trying to speed things up.

My bet is Squirrel and Son are the only Drag Week 2023 Participants to drive their entry over 2,000 miles to todays starting line. This is just the start, there are four nightly drives PLUS his 2,000+ mile drive back to AZ. This Squirrel has big Nuts!

Best to you and your Son.

My thoughts are; Squirrel knows an abrupt Starting Line Launch can reduce their chance of finishing 5 days of Drive-N-Drag thus a little soft on each launch may show up as less than optimal “reaction time”. With his Son’s GQ and Squirrel’s big NUTS my bet is they will improve daily.
Clearly, upon finishing Drag Week Squirrel and Son will be at the Top of the Tree for “Furthest from home with Never-a-Trailer” on Drag Week (if there is such an award)…
Best of Luck to this Father and Son team.

Good on them if they drove to Drag Week without a trailer…

We stuck around the. second checkpoint last night for a couple hours. Paul with the rusty Nomad pulled in, and we and his son who's driving a low buck OT truck sat around talking...it reminded me of cruising the main drag in Tucson all those years ago, with all the faster cars stopping to take their picture and driving on. Fun....

Off to the drag strip soon, we're in North Carolina now.

also I've been thinking about trying to stop by @Lloyd's paint & glass place on the way home. Looks like it adds about four hours to the trip, but has the bonus of driving a different route home, so we get to see new sights. I'll talk it over with Steven and see what he thinks. He has to get back to work Wednesday night next week, but since he works night shift he also has to get his sleep flipped over to daytime, which can take a few days to do.

I’d imagine sleeping in a little Corvette isn’t like a night at the Ritz;)

I say go for it, he can catch up on sleep later. This is something that he will always remember and cherish. I would give anything to be able to spend more time with my dad going on long road trips doing car things.

Don't put yourself out big guy, I understand completely! But if you're up for it just give me a heads up to make sure I'm off work. Or come by the firehouse! Won't be the first hambr that's came to the station :D

  27. Just thinking, driving that far, racing every day, then driving back home... with your son; that is the all around win.

I was at LACR... the first time at a drag strip ever and had a reaction time soooooo bad the announcer made a comment about it... i learned quickly and started getting really good reaction times. I was only 2 hours from home and I had AAA.
Keep it up, dont kill the car and have fun!

Made a run today, same et, surprising.

But there's a new squeal when the clutch pedal is in. Maybe throw out or pilot bushing. I have to figure out if I want to fix it now or later. I guess I should get parts now.

  29. Consistent! Gotta bracket car there. Hope you get the squeal figured out.

  30. Jim, I heard Freiburger say that all cars had to run drag radials, I know you didn't have a trailer and your trunk was packed, were you able to borrow some from another competitor ?

BTW, did you and Steven like the liquor cake? HRP
