Spending a little time in the shop on your birthday is a good thing. I was in Clarinda this week. If you need pictures of anything, let me know.

Alright, fire up the compressor, blow out all those 75 candles and get back to work.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes ! And @spanners I did work today. With only rear wheel brakes, I wanted the insurance of a parachute. I had mounted the pack sometime back, and decided to tackle the shroud mounting today. Being the rear end is a quickchange, it required two separate bolt on brackets, with a sleeve between them. I started by using some thin aluminum for the pattern, punching holes and making bends. When I was satisfied with the shape, I recorded the bend angles and degrees of bend, the flattened the pattern, and laid out a right and left side on 10 ga steel. This is the result. wouldn't the frame be a stronger attachment point.

It probably would be, but the rear crossmember protrudes up through the bed floor, and shroud line attach point needs to be lower than the bottom of the box. If the bracket hangs off the crossmember it will hit the quickchange . I suppose I could bend a tube, weld it the the back of the crossmember, and add a clevis well behind the quickchange cover. And deal with the hole in the bed floor.

Belated HB Marty...the Chute, air brakes...that must be an odd feeling the first time you experience it...for you business as usual...always enjoy your fabrication...genius...

For Stogy everything would be exhilarating and new territory...

Stogy, it’s even more odd when the chute doesn’t open. My 3rd pass in dragster at 180 and the chute failed to deploy. It was a wild ride, but I made the last exit lane !

Happy belated birthday Marty! Would sure have liked to B.S. with you a bit more at Toutle, maybe next year. My "hired" driver you met is hooked! That pickup of yours is going to be nice!

Dean, will you be at the GNRS ? Hopefully, nothing will stop me from having the truck in the Suede Palace, it would be good to see you again.

While under the back of the truck, I am not happy with the shroud line mounting, and am going to try something different. Also, I have been thinking about wheelie bars, and remembered I had a pair in the attic. They are off a Super Gas Luv pickup I built back in 1980. They are the perfect length, old and used, just like the truck and me ! IMG_0550.JPG

But not used up! Up to the task at hand. Happy belated birthday! Used to think 75 was ancient. Only a few years from now I'll be there, and it doesn't look old anymore...

Actually, I just won the Ford Cup at the Best of Detroit race at Firebird, so there's still fun to be had, even for us old farts !!! Ford Cup win.jpg

I had the local NHRA Tech guy here today, to discuss the roll bar mountings, and we visited for a couple hours. He drove Gary Coe's "Gunfighter" AWB 57 Ford, and graduated to Altered's and Funny Cars. Great guy, that Dave Dowhaniuk !

It was a beautiful day, perhaps one of the last warm, sunny days, so I decided to get the headers painted. I normally ceramic silver the headers I build, because it's easy, and holds up well. Since I had to have white headers, or @Dean Lowe will not talk to me again, and being the right thing to do, I got them painted. IMG_0554.JPG IMG_0555.JPG IMG_0558.JPG IMG_0559.JPG IMG_0561.JPG
