Jim, you and rear wheel bearings/seals don't get along well. Isn't that the type problems you had with that contraption car you drove and the Rambler also? I know you and son will get it squared away.

    today's time slip.

    thurs time.jpg

We got a couple rear bearings, and I talked with Danny about stopping by his place to change them, but he might not have the stuff we need. And Lloyd is working this weekend. I'll probably ask around at the track in the morning and see if I can find someone nearby with a shop....

Anyways, the driving part of Drag Week is almost over for us, we just need to get to the track in the morning from our hotel, about 20 minutes away. Then for the long drive home.

Not sure what route you're taking home, but if you need anything (well-equipped shop included) on the way, I'm in central KS.

We'll look at the map some more. The skirt way home is I20 west, then I10.

Looks like going slightly north doesn't really add much to the drive, so we'll likely go that way. Also there's a neat storm off the coast here, so heading straight west asap is probably a good move for us.

the wedge, yeah, 63 Tempest running gear....found a replacement axle at French Lake and got a friend who lives up there to help me get it installed, hotel parking lot, 20 degrees out. Fun!

    I hate rear wheel bearings!

Yeah, the Wedge. I recall a photo of your friend Elana Scheer sitting in the Wedge. As I recall she likes unusual cars .

At the track, Steven is looking at the oil leak. It looks like it's been leaking for the whole trip, but slowly enough that it's a serious problem. So... We are thinking about just keeping an eye on it, and fixing when we get back home.

  18. Looks like Jim will be one of the fourth pair of cars to run at the beginning of the day so look at the very beginning of the video.

    Edit: 14.64 @ 95 mph

Corvettes in Somerset, KY tomorrow (9/23). If you’re on the way and can stop, great event and they have a garage for participants to work on their cars, free of charge (event and
Garage use) plus they have some tools to loan. Good luck on the trip home.
Better yet, I’ll just trade you Vettes so you can skip the rear axle repair. ;-)
Thanks for taking us along, great thread and love the car. Cherish the time with your son.

I'm thinking you will probably be fine if you keep it filled with oil.
I'm 1 hour (60 miles) west of Abilene right off of I20 . I do not have a full shop, I have most tools though.
The small garage is basically a tool shed with a carport in front to work under.
So floor jack, jack stands, oil drain pans, impact & air ratchets all sockets .... Is that a 10 bolt?
Pull the c clips & remove the axles? ..... Do you need a press to remove the bearings from the axle?
That would be the problem .... I have zip disk we can cut them off ..... I have some pipe, a floor jack, header over the garage door .... we could press them back on :D

You would be much better off changing them at home .... If I can help though. We can do something.
I literally live near the freeway, take the exit at the light turn left, next light turn right 3 blocks turn left and 3rd house on right .... Just saying it is 2 minutes from the freeway not a hour.
If you want to just zip in for a pit stop we can jack it up pump in some gear oil .... I have some 85-140 GL5 around. Be back on the road in 15 minutes. never even open your trunk & have to repack.

Or whatever you think you want to do, we could fire up the pressure washer & clean things up take a few minutes to investigate ..... Here is how I press a pressure plate together .... we could do something :p ..... I will pm you my phone number ... I think we talked a couple years ago over the phone I'll just send it to you again though so you do not have to search. 0925211235a.jpg

    Thanks everyone!

I was the first one to finish Drag Week this year, turned in my time slip before anyone else.

We're on the road, just got into Alabama. Atlanta was fun at rush hour.

We'll drive to we get tired tonight.
