Hello, We see a lot of kudos to the Watson, Jefferies, Barris camp in colorful paint designs and combinations. In So Cal back then and today, there are a lot of guys that are/were just as talented as the above mentioned artists. But since we were not building show cars, the cost of those "famous" guys' paint jobs were beyond our means. We were lucky to get an Earl Schieb $19.99 all inclusive paint job! Ha! Two of our friends did so and they actually looked good. ($19.99 in 1960 is around $200.00 today) When my wife and I went to the 1967 Summer Drag Boat Championships at the Long Beach Marine Stadium, there were a lot of boats with the Joe Anderson logo, “Colors by Joe Anderson…” Jnaki “Joe Andersen was a legendary custom car painter and pinstripers from Gardena, California. Joe started his pinstriping and custom paint business in a little garage on 64th street in Los Angeles, just about 80 feet east of Normandie Avenue, near Ansen Automotive. Louis Senter, the founder of Ansen, encouraged Joe and was a mentor for the aspiring artist. Joe did a lot of engineering for Louie in the early days as well.” Photo by Mike Davis Then, he established his reputation at the Gardena, CA shop.
