I believe Kenny Ellis had a blown small block Chevy in it at first. It must have run/handled ok for him to decide to step up to the Chrysler. I don’t remember seeing it at Lions but I’m sure it must have been there.

^^^^ That car just blows my mind. Such bizarre out of the box thinking. From the bars all over the rear end, to the strange front spring/shocks, to the water bag cooling the fuel tank (?) Wild (and ugly)
Are those lower bars acting as “hairpins” to locate the front axle? Must have been interesting to drive.

Any one have any idea where this guy would have gotten those wheels from in 1962? Would they have been custom made, or did the come off some strange car or out of a racing program of some kind?

Gene, same as these aren't they? I just figured they were Halibrand.

Rocket makes copies now that look the same. I've been debating getting a set.

This supposed to be from the 1962 Halibrand catalog.

This looks like a very early junior dragster. Even has a front engine.

This was the reason the fuel additive (can't remember the name) was outlawed, well this and the fact that it killed a lot of racers. Blown fuel cars that used it emitted a greenish exhaust.

The additive started a chemical reaction as soon as it was added to the fuel. There was a very limited time frame to get it burned before it self destructed. As it burned, it added oxygen to the fuel giving a huge power boost. Any delay in the racing action had this result. If there was a sudden delay (blown engine or pretty much any racing delay), the racers using that stuff would pull the fuel tank and dump it out on the ground along a fence line.

The additive entered the human blood stream by skin contact and within a very short time, the guy was dead. The word of the day was that if you added it to your fuel, and suddenly lost your senses of smell and taste, you better get your things in order because you would soon be dead.
