Just a reminder that Gene is having his very last get together tomorrow, Saturday the 7th of October. The property is for sale and at 96, Gene is moving on. I have had the pleasure of going to all his previous get togethers, and they all have been fun. This is the end of an era, for sure. I wouldn't miss it for anything. There will be an auction going on out back, but otherwise it will be fun as usual. He is on Sierra Highway half way between Rosamond and Mojave. You can't miss it. It's on the west side of the road with a gazillion cars parked outside. Spectators are free and $20 per car to park inside. If you miss this, you will kick yourself forever !

Man, I sure missed that one. Stopped by his place a few months ago. Unfortunately he was at the roadster show. Day late and a dollar short

Legend. I was able to take a class from him last year and will forever be grateful I did. Bittersweet emotions. He was always so willing to share his knowledge.

Got to meet him at the Detroit auto show years ago. If you wanted a picture, autograph or just a handshake he made time for everyone. Just the nicest guy you'll ever meet.

Gene is a legend and beyond that he is a great human being. Always made time to meet and talk with fans. Have the great fortune of meeting him at the GNRS and have pictures of him sharing time with my 10 year old grand daughter. Best of luck Gene

  22. I've had numerous conversations with him at Salina through the years. He is one of the few that became more famous in his twilight years. Up until he broke his hip, there was no sign of him not enjoying his life. I hope someone has a good report to post. :)

Is this a retirement thing? or the new laws mandating caps on driving hot rods and combustion engines out of California?

At 96 years old, one would like to think it was nothing other then a retirement thing.

Whatever circumstances may have contributed to his decision are immaterial. Gene lived a great life with a long and outstanding career and he has chosen this point in time to move on. No one forced him to do anything, this was his choice. He has earned the right to have his choice respected without question. That is the way it should always be remembered.

Gene closed his shop only he still plans on touring and doing seminars about customizing. Jimmy Severino and I had lunch a week ago Friday and discussed Gene's future plans at length.

For what it's worth- the auction at Gene's complex, scheduled for today Oct 21, has been cancelled; seems there is some undefined drama developing per Instagram.

The Bid Fast page is showing the auction going "live" in 27 days from now, but open for prebids. I was interested in one of the trailers but it looks like I better hold off until this gets settled. Prayers for Gene!
