*****in' post Mark. In the picture at Lions of the dragster on the rollers, my pop saw the Chevelle in the uppper left and "we use to race them in cl*** one"Too cool. Thanks for the repost.

Thanks for the memories. I was lucky enough to be at Santa Ana in 51 (I was 5) and at Lions the month that it closed.

  13. Are the HA/GRs running radiators like this?

Peggy in her Cadillac powered dragster circa 1953. Check out the radiator set up - so she could drive the car home. If you ever knew her, nothing she did would surprise you. When they ran Lions it was common knowledge that CJ would often let you slide when you screwed up but you didn't cross Peggy![/SIZE]

Don't know, but that would most likely be Tustin at the lighter than air base based on the hangar probably taken around the same time since both the base and the airport were used around the same time.

I never made it to Santa Ana, always wanted too, but being near Colton thats where I saw my first dragstrip. I saw Creighton Hunter crash his 'piece of pie' dragster at Colton, that was one fast flathead for awhile.

Thanks, nutz. Great stuff. One of my hot rod buddies who is 81 used to race at S.A. in the early and mid fifties. He was born in Santa Ana and has lived his whole life in O.C. except for a stint in the Marines. He always talks about it and it's great to hear his stories.

Creighton Hunter and I played golf every Wed. for several years . He would tell me stories of the Santa Ana Drag days and of his relationship with CJ, what a great partnership that was . A couple of legends for sure .
