While hiking on the poet Robert Frost's VT property he purchased and farmed in 1920, I went off the path and found what was left of his Model A! Too far gone but if not wouldn't it be cool to have a car formally owned by the Poet?
Must have been a termite special...sure makes a walk in the woods a bit more interesting... That looks like our rust belt survivor material...at least the skitters are gone so you can better enjoy the situation at hand... Now what is it...there's a cowl band and the belt line is a good definer as is the firewall the rest...not so much...
Definitely can't be a Model A since we see a bit of cowl top skin, which would be the gas tank on any Ford, unless it was a 28/29 Fordor but we can see by the firewall it is definitely not Ford. Undoubtedly this was a tin-skinned wood-framed car. That firewall is pretty distinctive and should be enough to positively ID it if anyone recognizes it but I'm not having any luck. Definitely an interesting sight, shame it's so far gone.
@hurlbird...is this the same place...if so were you aware of this history below around that estate? An interesting twist on the property you were on if it is in fact this one... https://www.robertfrostfarm.org/history-property Quoted... "In the 1940s, after Frost had left the farm, the property took on use as a junk yard. The field behind the home was littered with hundreds of junk cars, and the home itself fell into disrepair. The property was obtained by the state of New Hampshire in 1964. By 1975, restorations were complete and the farm was opened for public visitation." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Frost_Farm_(Derry,_New_Hampshire) I guess the one you found was the one that got away...
Whether or not an A, it would be something to own. Even if hung off the back of the barn. “I pulled this out of…”
I'd be looking for a smaller detail to hang...and being private property I might be a little leary dragging a cowl out...I would ask before as one would hate to have a record over a rusty piece of history...I've seen many and just captured the memory...but a late 20s hubcap would fit in your pocket and no one would miss it...
I'm enough of a hoodlum that I would absolutely steal every bit of that rusty piece of shit that I thought I could get away with... especially if I thought there was a way to use it... better than it returning to the Earth.
Oh, I didn’t mean to pilfer it, I just assumed there was permission to be on the property. If so, then one could go back and ask if it’s “okay to..”. But heck, even a pic of that and based on the property as mentioned, would be good for me.
This story seems very appropriate to the HAMB. Many of us on here took the road less traveled...and it made all the difference.
When I was a teen - eons ago - I found a tall T coupe while hiking in the woods (not on a snowy evening) in not much better shape. The landowner was a hermit so I was afraid to approach him. With today's skill set I could have probably saved it. pity
@hurlbird were you walking behind the stone house on 7A or up at the Gulley? The Gulley estate is now owned by Norman Lear and is considered to be a private property. I live a mile from the Stone house. You should have given me a holler.
