I have so many distractions going on at home I've decided to mark everything that HAS been torqued with a paint pen. Having a fan clutch/water pump pulley come loose has been the worst so far, so I'll count myself fortunate. Now to come up with a B.S. tale about factory paint markings.....

  3. Just adding some pictures of my stupidity, the rod nuts were laying in the pan, I definitely forgot to torque them. Out comes the motor to either put a crank in it or swap engines.

Don't be too hard on yourself, you are not alone in the Mistake Department. Just have to correct it. and smile about it after.

Kinda hard to hit the like button brother, almost seems like an insult! I feel your pain

  6. I'm temporarily broke for a few more months so I've been doing those little things that don't cost anything and measuring stuff that just leads to uncertainty and doubt. Case in point: I rebuilt the AOD this spring and installed it in the 29AA frame to check fitment. while it was in, with torque converter, I laid the flexplate up against it to ensure the old FMX flex plate (164-tooth) will couple the 351W to the AOD. Seemed to fit like a glove . . . if you are using OJ's glove as a point of reference. Seems that there is about an .063 inch gap between the sideways torque converter studs, or the flexplate is warped that much. Now I could probably shim with .031 washers behind the two studs. Or perhaps tightening the flexplate to the crankshaft might pull it flat. Or maybe the term "flexplate" is appropriate reference, acknowledging that there is a certain amount of flex built into the thing to accommodate slight differences in flatness. I dunno. I'll probably commandeer the kitchen countertop and measure the flexplate differences at each torque converter hole to see if it is the flexplate or the coverter that is off. Meanwhile, what else should I consider, or am I worrying about nothing?

UNLESS we get a good laugh out of it!!! LMAO!!! Just embrace it and tell a good Friggin' story! :D:rolleyes::oops::cool:;)

  8. Oh hell that’s just my stupid humor. I’m good, motors out and that piston is out, didn’t hurt the block so another piston and rod and crank and back together it goes.

Like an idiot, I took on a rust repair job on a '59 Ford. LR 1/4 is the worst of it. He wants to leave the patina on the upper half, so just doing the bottom. As I was walking to the house & turned around, I liked what I saw, so took this pic. Feels good to spend my time doing this, and not working for "the man" anymore. But, I should be working on MY junk.

  25. I spent way to many hrs cleaning that left over black crinkle paint out of the fins and letters on these valve covers I'm putting together for the blower motor.
What a pain in the arse, but now they're ready to start the polishing process whenever I get to it.

I bought this assortment of brass brushes for the Dremil tool

    Screenshot_20231010_005608_Chrome.jpg
The top ones fit in-between the fins great but they come apart fast and stick all into your clothes and skin, I had like a thousand of those little needles stuck in me, damn porcupine.
The middle one worked the best since the longer it was used the smaller it twisted together and you could really get into the tight spaces.
I also cut some 80 grit paper into a 2 inch square and put that onto the cutoff wheel attachment, trying anything and everything.
I really thought the new blast cabinet would've stripped it right of but that was some tough stuff.

One of the smartest things I've ever done in/for my shop was to buy a leather apron. iirc it came from Amazon and was around $30. No more wires stuck in me or my clothes.

  28. Today I blasted the tank bracket in preparation to clear it, but ..... I did not like the flat gray look it left and wasn't about to clear over that.
So I started the process of sanding it to see how it shines up, not sure of the direction I'm going yet, might end up with paint on it.

He did well. I've spent way too much time cutting stuff with a Zizz wheel, and personally, the 90 degree angle die grinders are a whole lot easier to control. So much so that I gave my straight grinder away.
