Seems like a lot of effort
    But the results don't equate
Somebody put a bunch of work into them but missed the point

    Hello,

We were driving around the coastal areas looking for a specific house and yard. We saw some that were nice and were surprised at a red custom 1940 Ford pickup truck sitting by a curb in one of the coastal areas. We had some time to go see other homes, so we left to come back around later in the road trip. A quick digital camera shot from the driver’s side was taken and to appease my wife, we drove on to the next area a mile or so away.
    upload_2023-9-24_3-23-30.png
Upon returning to the original area where the truck was parked, we were surprised that it was still there. So, not wanting to look as if we were thieves, a quick rear view mirror shot was taken and we drove to the harbor for a nice respite.

Since we are/were a couple of road trippers since 1966 together, she surprised me with a nod to the red 40 Ford truck. “…it was a nice looking truck and probably would fit perfectly inside of our own garage for our weekly trips…” I guess our red 327 powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery we owned back in our 20s, still rings true as far as fun on the roads of our old destinations weekly. Interesting pictures but I find it disturbing to see all the tiny low hidden lights. With modern traffic & drivers I want mine high & bright so all the nitwits can not ignore them. Of coarse I drive mine not built for show.

    Douglas, what is the release to inside the cap door? There is no wrong answer but my favorites would be;
    1. secret drug drawer
    2. automatic fold down skirts (think landing gear doors)
    3. battery disconnect
    4. engages the turbonique rocket powered rear diff
    5. propane valve for tail gate stove
    6. keg tap, dispense beer through that drive line slip joint in back
    7. condom dispenser? Pull the lever and a Ramses or French Tickler drops out the tail pipe?
    8. air bag release valve, lays frame to prevent theft and good safety item at shows, prevents kids and small animals from getting burnt beneath car.
    9. driver's side door release (left door for my RHS friends) assuming this is a 3 door 'Bourbon

And number 10 from our home office in beautiful downtown Burbank, kept hermetically sealed in a mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wangle's porch...
    10. Surely you didn't hide the gas door release knob.

Pretty much "industry standard" issue stuff. 50 Pontiac replica taillights in an aftermarket rear panel.

  17. Here is what I came up with as a 17 year old in the mid seventies. Not crazy about the reverse lights, but still think the brake/ running light is okay. 1951 front bumper on the back of a 50 ford pickup.

To me, “custom” (and by that I mean the entire car). custom (a modification design be just to be different which is where I think I usually fall into), and just something that’s different all kind of run together and muddy the waters when you talk about one particular part/area of a vehicle. That being said, there are several pretty cool taillight ideas here on sone really nice trucks.
Although I do not consider this to be custom but more of “I made you think” touch and to just be a bit different, the taillights on my coupe and the truck are 34 housings modified to accept 53 Buick lenses. This was initially done more for safety as you have an extended lens that is illuminated all the time and can be seen from the side of my car/truck, especially at night ……

    Hello,

I took this photo a year ago of the cool blue Ford pickup truck parked along a nice uninterrupted background. At the time, it was a surprise to see it in great shape. But in looking closer again, I noticed that it is a follower of the third brake light philosophy in an old hot rod truck. It was so subtle that it went by in a flash.

What I did notice was the great looking stance, the nice paint and custom wheels. So, it pays to be attentive when taking photos for the details.

When I pulled up to take photos, I do remember my daily driver was eye level with the two matching rear, red taillights. So, that vision would be what I or anyone else would see at night all lit up. But, the third light would instantly catch my eye as to emergency lighting and or braking for the moment. YRMV

Usually found on 40 car fenders, the classic and rare 41 Studebaker also fits the pickup.
