Wait till we don't have a job anymore because a machine has replaced you...I don't think that's happening large scale yet but it's a corporate goal I'm sure...

I guess some jobs are harder to robotisize...though...Artists and Writers...they cost money, good money too...and guess what?...they want it cheaper...funny all the Artists and everywhere past and present are what Zeltango is...is it better for it...no...scooped everyones work and now they're selling it like fine wine...

I still do my digital crayons as some reference it and even the odd pencil to paper...no probs...it feels good and the bot will scoop it up regardless if I post it somewhere...

But I've fulfilled my intentions and made a few smile...awesome...

The soul artists talk about...it's far less relevant today...most aren't that critical...let alone pay for it...my soul varies each and every piece...I do as best I can...

The brain is a very simple computer relative to the silicon being made today… physical labor is far more expensive to reproduce with technology than intellectual property. Robots have moving parts.

It sucks, but you can’t put toothpaste back in the bottle… As such, you are better off figuring out how to use it than to fight it… That being said, I’m not super stoked about promoting it.

I think you have that completely backwards.

We have very little understanding of how the brain works...we've finally identified thousands of different types of cells in it, but still almost no understanding of how they work together.

    AI is still very shallow.

To me back to Zeltango it's just Artwork you shared, CG or not...Hamb friendly at that...pretty cool...without the Art of the masses and generations it wouldn't exist..I don't fear it really...I rather appreciate it if its up my alley...and you have pretty high standards in Hotrod and Custom...

I'm glad we get it from all directions around here...there's room for it all as long as it goes back in time and meets the guidelines...Art show this Friday...Comin' Up!!

Good point… but the brain’s output is being copied at far more copious of a pace than robots taking over our physical tasks… I’ve watched AI go from laughable 18 months ago to unreal accuracy…

guess time will tell… I’m no expert on this shit at all.

Look..I am not here to argue the pros and cons of AI.. aside from the "Art aspect".. I feel it's a very dangerous thing that has been created.
Would I love to go back and use traditional methods that I was trained upon?
Absolutely..... But I also want to eat.
Folks talk a big storm about traditional stuff like that. but the simple fact is, no one can or will pay for the time investment.Period.

I think the concepts are neat,.. but this technology leaves me cold.
I also 100% agree you can't put the Genie back in the bottle.

I come to this place to marvel and dream of the golden years.. and yes.. part of me wishes I had a time machine......I myself was simply born in the wrong era.
As an artist(kinda).. I marvel at the days of designs and ideas from a bunch of folks 2 generations before my time.

    That is All.

The real artist is the metal man who can turn those images into real cars.

I feel you brother… honestly, I wouldn’t have featured this if I knew it was AI. On me…

I can relate to how this makes you feel… seriously… I just asked AI to rewrite this feature in the style of Ryan Cochran. Here’s what it fired back:

I'm not quite sure what's cookin' with this character, but he's spouting some wild lines about "broadcasting on all frequencies to spread classic cars from every damn dimension." Yeah, alright, partner... I'll catch a hit of that burner when you've finished spinning that yarn.

Basically, this cat's cookin' up a whole new recipe for them classics. He's dippin' into the well of inspiration from yesteryears and mixin' it all into a spiff that's got a flavor reminiscent of them prototypes from the '40s, '50s, and way beyond. What emerges often has a form so smooth and meticulously crafted that it's impossible not to catch that spark of inspiration, or, at the very least, start daydreamin' about all the possibilities.

Now, I couldn't pick this gent out of a lineup if my life depended on it. All his transmissions came via the Gram, and you know how I usually feel about them social media shenanigans. But, I reckon I'm makin' a rare exception on this one. This stuff's just too darn good to overlook, you catch my drift?

    ****

Feels cold and generic to me… I’d never write that…. But to a normal guy that doesn’t care all that much about the work I put into my wiriting?

    Fuck man…

Yes we are an incredible species...quite the tissue engine, heck I still can't get over the complexity of bugs as small as a pinhead...but we're more fortunate, we have Hotrod/Customs we can cruise around in...for the time being anyway...

Just a second..."Alexa can you paint me a 39 Chev Coupe, Gas Class 1959/60"

    Ok where were we...;)

In my mind the way I will be using AI is to learn from it…just as I have been trying to do from some of the amazing artists on this site. I already noticed a few little things from these “drawings?” that I think will help me in my attempts at art. Still prefer a good old Norwell or Jigger or Ervin or …the list goes on… drawing because they all have personality in them. I usually can’t wait for Friday mornings to view the art show here due to the variety of styles, textures and mediums. Although the AI stuff is sort of cool it all seems too much “ the same”.

  16. Remember that AI is always learning. So the more of 'yourself' that you put into it (whether that is writing, art or whatever), the better it's going to get at mimicking you. AI isn't at the point of creating original concepts (yet?). It's unfortunate that everything AI creates, has been built on the backs of an original thinker... an artist.

A number of authors are currently suing OpenAI as their books were used to train the system. I've also heard that AI was used to 'finish' the last two Game of Thrones books that are currently not yet written. Scary times.

That is stunning work...the bot took that too...when those AI companies are saying they scooped it all they literally take it all, HAMB included...and yes that sucks because they're getting rich and I get zippo from them...

I sense you see it as they've made an Artist disposable and in many ways they have...life for Artists will get tougher going forward...

I will still be Artistically creative though with my Amiga 500 in my head...hmmm maybe a Commodore 64...no perhaps less than that...:p...but the unknown yet to emerge whether it be digital fingers or pencil fingers...I'm capable of wowing myself...

  18. If you think of the renderings as concept, dream cars, then they are a little more believable. Any actual production versions would have been rather more clunky and pedestrian, however. But those images are totally fun and appeal to the hidden attention seeker in most of us. I can envision myself paying $5 or $10 for a calendar....... or submitting entries in a "Name That Car" contest....... or burning up a roll of film at a car show. In my mind, I can imagine the show, spokes-models in black and/or silver double knit, adorned with a half-acre of chrome zippers that are expanded to the fourth or fifth power to become a design element in their own right........ and definitely a couple of pointy bumperettes that could poke your eye out.
So basically, they are successful as design exercises from one man's fertile mind and digital toolbox that stir up lots of positive and a few negative juices in most types of bonified car guys.

Metal Shaping extraordinaire...you saw that at the link @Rickybop...

I have shared that artistic genius from what is it early 50s...that is truly amazing seeing that technology be applied in this fashion...

It seems as if there was a physical concept done back in the day...my sound was down...didn't hear voiceover.

But whether replicating or creating a full scale version, it's pretty jaw dropping...

  20. Not only are the writers in jeopardy but the actors are also looking over their shoulders because of the looming potential of replacing their images and voices.
How many posts do we have, in this one old car forum alone, of owners of certain period-correct vehicles being paid good money by movie production companies to use said vehicles as props or color backgrounds? "Sorry guys, it's been fun but we got plenty of that now."

  21. Not arguing the plusses or minuses of AI (frankly it scares me too), or whether the renderings have sole or not...but, if any of them showed up in steel, aluminum or fiberglass, rolling in under their own steam at a car show, I'd stop and crawl all over, around, through and under it...probably slack Jawed.

Sci Fi has warned us of this for over a half century. Anyone who has read or watched these contemplations on the future we now find ourselves in will recognize the taste.

I care. But hey we all know I'm pretty fkn far from "normal' so...

Soul has been mentioned multiple times. Without breaking house rules that's something with more definitions than AI has in terabytes. This house if full of "old souls" regardless of their earthly tenure. Maybe IG has me doing it lately but I find myself more attracted than ever to older TV shows in the evenings. And it isn't the corny scripts or nostalgic wishes to see the old actors. The backgrounds get me. Old phones, built in wall clocks, furnishings, and of course the cars. It all ties in for me. Ai will never get that right if you were there. So many of us were. That 1960 concept @Jeff Norwell shared? Head and antlers above what was displayed in the topic. I have this thing too, done by a draftsman (remember them?).
    004.jpg
No name, date, clearly Ford derived, and it was found behind a wall during a home remodel on Grosse Isle, MI. The T-tops, it might have ties to the late Gordon Buehrig who spent a short time at Ford. AI? More like aye-ye-ye. Old souls indeed.

People are saying AI, but those pictures may be illustrated using a computer without AI. I guess you'd have to ask the artist to find out for sure.

Of course you could… we are assuming he used AI as each image is tagged as such - something I didn’t notice until Norwell pointed it out…

it’s without question the best I’ve seen AI do… I’m betting he used MidJourney - an ai visual art research program that I’ve yet to try.
