Driving your rod to work.....

  1. This is going to be my first winter with a roadster. I bet I'll find a way to keep warm some how.

Jeez -- a little envy going on here . . . I'm sanding and doing body work on my old beast . . . I mean Buick. :) Maybe next weekend I'll get to go to a BBQ in Kansas City.

  3. I drive mine to work, as long as it not raining.

  4. Been there, suffered that! I'd love to drive mine but it just isn't worth it after all that work I put in it. Some people just don't give a **** about others.

Just took this photo a few minutes ago through the mini-blinds of my office window. I drive my 52 every day that I come to the office. (I occasionally work from home.) And I agree that it makes for a long day waiting to jump back in and go. Sometimes I'll run out at lunch and just drive somewhere even though I brought my lunch and don't really have anywhere to go.

  7. Unfortunately mine is going up for sale soon so I won't get to drive it to work. I will be building a new hot rod this winter though. Thanks for the inspiration you guys, Chip.

  8. Best way to sell it is to have it seen driving around! But you may enjoy it too much to sell it...

I used to drive my 50 to work at the auto parts store occasionally because it really wasn't safe enough for the road at the time but I wanted to drive it so bad and I only worked a few blocks away. I loved it when customers would come in and ask me who drove that peice of **** here.

It is a 34 Chevy 3-window hi boy that used to be a local racecar and has been in SRM a couple times in the events section for various area tracks.
I hate selling it, but I do have the mold that was made off of it and I am going to build a blown BBC Triumph GT6 this winter. The 34 is my first time to buy someone else's hot rod rather than build it. I can't handle pulling up somewhere and everyone knowing I didn't build the car. If I can get the picture posting thing down on here, I will post pictures of the coupe.

  11. I understand.

  12. I'm gonna go drive the econobox home and go to the garage. Have a great weekend.

How is it on I-5 Paul??
Some places are pretty rough, even in a new car.
I hopped on at the T-Dome and got off at Port of Tacoma. Pretty bouncy over the bridge. The truck handled it OK, but I'm going to go over the whole thing this weekend to check for loose hardware.:D

I try to drive my car to work as often as possible. I guess I'm lucky I work pretty close to home and I work at a parts house, so there's not too many people there. I can park around back and customers don't see to bother it, and the other guys leave it alone. Usually I do have to park next to someone though. This was monday at work, camera phones ****...

Drove mine this morning. I always get kiddos giving me the thumbs up and dirty looks from people in a hurry. I love it.

Taking a detour on the way north to Spring. Detours are good.

I drive mine every single day 12 months a year, rain or shine. I even drove through a tropical storm once....not cool.

Daily drivers are a risky proposition...

My little car got rear ended last January. She is all fixed now, but it still makes me a little nervous.

If you look closely, you will see my buddies 55 Ford and 38 Ford. Also daily drivers.

I,d drive mine to work if I had a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I might as well drive it to the bar.

  23. 300 miles a week, every week. The way I saw it, I could buy an econobox for $15,000 with the new car tax and new car insurance or I could build a mild custom that would have more character, cost less and gain in value.

Not to mention I get 22mpg and believe I can get even more after a few changes. Unlike the window sticker milage quotes, I actually get 22.

Drove mine today. Drove it for first time to this job on wednesday. Had to open the gate with my badge. Normally the guard has it open by the time I get there. Pretty fun. As far as idiots on the road, I've been lucky and everyone seems to give me room. Maybe I wont fix that exhaust leak.

I was a high school Guidance Counselor in my professional life.....I used to drive my '34 3w in to work every once in a while and the kids just loved it!!
The last year my younger daughter was in high school I used to show up in my Deuce 3w/flathead to pick her up.......she was horrified the first time I did that! But then she caught on that all the kids thought it was cool to be picked up by a Dad in a hot rod!!

I had to drive it about an hour inland yesterday and it was exhilarating!! Got my hair cut and then drove back toward home to pick up my pal, the Kingfish and we went flatheadin' off to have lunch together!!! Great fun!

  26. I got all bundled up to drive mine today (its cold at 5am here) and open the garage go grab my skateboard out of my jeep (never leave home with out my board) and notice ****!!! the registration is expired.. **** I wanted to drive it today the weather is so nice but who knows how much longer. I usually drive mine 1-2 times a week to work, but driving home ****s in traffic even in my hot rod.

I drive mine everyday, but they did that in 55 too. Somebody once commented to me about driving an old car: "Every days a parade". Thats just about the way it is, waving hands, and thumbs up. If you don't like attention, don't drive an old car!

    you got that right,
a few miles of real bad concrete panel misalignment
especially in the slow (big rig) lane
    DesMoines and Federal Way..

just gotta clench yer jaw and blast through it
kinda rough on the old body though

99 is all nice smooth asphalt
but it adds about a half hour to the already long commute...
