Im not seeing them on line. Thinking about going that way vs. full fenders.

  2. A lot of guys back in the day would use the outside of the early spare tire carrier - it was perfect for this application.

must be fabricated , none that i know of were ever commercially available, 36 ford spare tire rings were a popular starting point ( as mentioned by Bored & Stroked above ) you see the ones with the rib down the middle that's what they used ,, will take some work (or fab dollars) to make a set ,, but ya cant deny they are cool ..

There are a number of Threads on fabbing them and I have a couple Threads with plenty of inspiration...

The Spare tire ring is most traditional/period correct and looks better than store bought trailer stuff...

Spare Tire rings can be had for very little cost...Mine was literally given to me...

I have to buy some 1 to 1 .25" x 1/4" flat bar to make the Bracketry but its not rocket science just a bit of cypherin and guzintas with a bit of drilling and welding...

'36 Ford spare rings are indeed the right way to go. I had a '37 Buick sidemount cover that had the same bead down the center, and used that to make two rear fenders. It'd have been nice to have two, because they ended up a bit short on the rear, but they looked cool as hell. They fit better of 7.50X16 tires than the skinny Fords. Trailer fenders look like trailer fenders...

...I wanted a smooth non beaded ring as I have smooth Trailer fenders on the back which surprisingly was available in 1957 and used on Hotrods, mind you they may have been Steel..my backs are aluminum but if I run bare metal with clear coat it matches the back very well I was surprised...

...I was pretty happy to find this pic which is around 1957ish...This is a Hambers Dads Hotrod ... Mine are attached to the wheel-well as stock are but this looks to have strut to backing plate like the fronts and they look pretty nice in my opinion...

Google "steel motorcycle fender blanks" or "builder blank fender". Looks like you can get just about anything. Mike

Made a set for my roadster from an old spare tire ring that I bought for $20.

I don't have some at hand Stogy but I can grab some if you give me a little bit. They were pretty simple really. All I did was weld some large nuts to the back of the front backing plates. Then I used flat bar welded to the side of the fender with an inner piece shaped to the curve of the fender. All of that was welded on the fender. Which I then attached by bolting it to the back of the backing plate. I'll go grab a couple shots of the fender mounts...

Here you go Stogy. Mine are pretty much the same as what was posted just above. The only thing I didn't do was a cross brace between the two supports which I was planning on adding.

  20. Check out your local motorcycle shop, if they don;t have them in stock they can order one from their suppliers, when I was building bikes they were available in several widths. HRP

Stogy my supports are 1 1/2" x 1/4". I didn't want to take a chance they would break.

As in too long, too wide, too much what? Ribbed fenders are about as traditional as you can get. Determine what width you need for the tires you have, and cut them to what length you need. It's not rocket surgery.

hurlbird the fronts are about 30 1/2" long. Kind of hard to get a steel tape measure to follow the curve of the fender!:D I run bigger diameter tires on the rear. The front fenders work with 6:50/16 and 560/15 tires. I did have to adjust the mount position tho when running the 560 Firestones. I just bobbed stock A fenders for the rear.
