I’m always looking for deals that work with whatever I’m working on, even if I don’t really need it. Being from Texas I’m also used to going a long way to get anywhere. I had these wheels pop up in fartbook marketplace and they were in the Kingsport TN area, the price was certainly right. Chrome reversed Chevy wheels and some spider caps for $300.
The guy I got them from is an Elvis impersonator.
It’s a fer’ piece to get there from Richmond but I try to use trips like these to see things. It’s crazy how many times I’ve been to Kingsport on business since 1991 but never once visited the Bristol Motor Speedway, there wasn’t an excuse not to now. I happened to find some open gates and had a look around. I hope they don’t mind as I wasn’t up to any mischief. Both at the track and the drag strip, fortuna favet fortibus, so I had a look around. The Cumberland Gap is pretty this time of year, too. Making stops like this while picking up parts really made it a fun day. No kidding, if I had known it would have caused such vinegar responses I would never have mentioned it.

Oh yeah. One of the drag strips on my bucket list, cool. I do the same thing chasing parts long distance, take the wife and make an outing of it. Good score on the wheels.
Folks are going to have to learn to overlook smoothie chrome wheels pretty soon, it’s all but impossible to get factory style steel wheels these days. I hope that improves soon.

Views like that are certainly worth the gas money, may even dip into the parts cost!
With the pics shown, I'd say you got the wheels darn near free!

Great score, Sounds like a great trip too.

My wife was born and raised in Texas (McGregor) and we lived there the first seven years after we got married in 1969. I'm always amazed that people from other parts of the country think that what was a normal beer or good barbecue run in Texas is "too far away" to go to an event or after something.

Was in Paducah Ky. in the mid 80's visiting my wifes' sister so we drove to Bowling Green and toured the Corvette plant, since seeing photos of that cool covered grandstand at Beech Bend I had wanted to go to the drags there, nothing going on at the time but decided to drive into the facility to have a look, drove in like we owned the place.
Still would like to get back there sometime, maybe I should put that on my bucket list.

About 20 years ago I lived in your neck of the high desert in Kennewick, you had to drive a bit there, too.

Wish I'd have known you were coming this direction. I'm way better than an average cook and you would have been welcome. FYI, we don't do banjos or roadkill at our house ;).

Great score on the wheels. Hard to beat chrome on a black 55.
I live 12 miles from Paducah Ky. Good area still to hail from. There is a great couple of events at Beech bend that are HAMB friendly, The Hot Rod Reunion on Father's day weekend and the Tri Five Nats the 2nd weekend of August every year. Come on down.

It was actually Eddyville where my wifes' sister lives, not too far from the prison.
I just remembered we also went to the River City Rod Run in Paducah.

Looks like a nice adventure! Those wheels are nice too!

I was away for the weekend, but found a brand new in box Holley carb on our local classifieds about 15 minutes from my house for about half the price of new, which in Canada means I saved $500 on the exact carb I wanted for my RPU. Luckily my dad is retired and happily snagged it for me.

    Nice to find those deals.

Some people think anything over 10-20 mi is a long trip. In July I drove just shy of 700 mi one way to buy an OT car. A friend of mine lives in Mt and thinks nothing of driving 5 hrs or more one way to go to a show. Some people just don't get it.

  27. It's a great place to live, I'm about 17 minutes from the track. I watched the power tour and drag week cars drive through town on their way to Bristol.
I actually saw those wheels for sale. I have enough 14" already. Good score though.
