Color choice is whatever makes you happy (and maybe the wife) and don't listen to anybody else! BUT for sure try to get a look at the color you choose on another car that is a similar size and don't rely on a color chip or a picture on the computer screen. Like the song says "I won't get fooled again". Mark

IMG_0292.jpeg IMG_0293.jpeg Just got home from out of town working. I ordered paint and it came in today. left 3 is base color alone center is base with lime gold candy over it, right is base with Mayan gold candy over it, (which I imagine is a knock off of pagan gold)
I think I like the base alone and maybe do scallops in the Mayan gold. What say you?

I am sorry for the problem. I don't have anything to offer but please update when you do find the issue.

I can't offer any help either, but it looks like what crinkle paint was suppose to do back in the late 60s.

I'm clueless, but it's too even imho to be a cleanliness issue. Is that a lacquer-based paint by any chance? looks like a problem I vaguely remember from the '60s when Acrylic lacquer would cause problems if sprayed over a basecoat that wasn't oven baked like a factory would have done back then. Did you mix different brands?
Another thought is possibly the wrong reducer?
I'm not familiar with the Slick Sand you mentioned, or why you used it over 2k.......isn't that what the 2k is suppose to provide? Also, I think you mentioned in a previous post you sprayed the 2k without an activator? Maybe I misread but didn't understand what you were saying. If you mixed brands, you're probably not going to get much help from the manufacturers. You're probably frustrated as hell right now.
I would have let the 2k dry out for at least a few weeks before blocking. Paint shops avoid that time by using heat lamps.
When I did my car, it was epoxy primer, then 2k, then (acrylic?)sealer, then base and clear.
With all that said, be advised I am not an expert on the subject, and a pro may probably have different opinions.

    Just to clarify,
I definitely use activator in 2k.
This is summit epoxy, wait a hour then nason 2k mixed 4:1:1 with medium urethane reducer. Then Orion basecoat.
I spoke to Orion (their tech support is stellar) I wipe with wax and grease remover between each different primer and base. She said likely the wax and grease remover didn’t like the base and told me don’t use the wax and grease remover so often. Also said that could have needed a longer dry time. I haven’t sprayed any of the slick sand on the car yet and the roof didn’t need much help it’s almost perfect shape. So it’s just epoxy/2k/basecoat.

I think I need to let it dry more, I tend to be kind of impatient and the weather was in the 70s past few days so I haven’t had the 100 degree temps from last week.

i have sanded the bad areas to metal and recoated with summit epoxy waited all day then a coat of summit 2k. So we’ll see

That should do it but, the SlickSand should've gone on right after the epoxy. That's the material that builds up to fill up any low spots. Block the SS with 180 followed by 240 and you should be close to laser straight. Shoot a couple of coats of 2k over the SS to fill any imperfections, block the 2k with 240 then 400 wet and spray your color. That's the way I'd do it.....but I'm no expert!

Thanks!! I’ll need to do some panels or something to hide a boo boo in the base but I think it came out alright.

My brother shot my dash and garnish in my garage on a June evening... only too late to realize there were BUGS in everything. I had to scuff it all up and wait for a time where we could shoot it outside in daylight. Then it was perfect.

IMG_0414.jpeg IMG_0413.jpeg Been a little bit, I was working on nostalgia top fuel dragster and then I had to work out of town.
I sprayed a coat of house of kolor primer reduced on the car yesterday after I blocked sanded with 180/220/ 400g most of the car is ready with a couple tiny spots that need a little help. I’ll deal with those and block with 600. Today I got the hood roughed in and epoxy sprayed on it and installed. Also polished the bumpers, they need a re chrome but for now they’ll do.

    Update….
Got it in paint, I have some issues but, I have issues with everything I paint lol. Got some clouding in some spots and the typical bugs and dust etc but that stuff will buff out. But overall I’m happy. Thanks man, it doesn’t lack its flaws but I painted in my driveway, in Houston with mosquitoes, pollen and humidity my expectations were only set on moderate. Lol and I’m not a real painter I just paint stuff occasionally.
