I saw that, but at 330 feet, that's not too exciting.

    I'm torn between two ideals.
330 feet equals 110 yards! That is not drag racing, it's just giving a short thrill to a young teen driver. I believe that they will want more.
Giving a thrill to a young driver however is the point. It keeps young drivers off of the street and puts them in a safe area.
At least its a step in the right direction.

Insurance insurance insurance. Why else 1/16 mile. Not like cars are getting slower. How many times have cars at Irwindale kissed the wall at half track there? Several

330' for a street car is better than no track at all, I'd race even 60' if that was all that was available! I hope they make it work.

We had a local track that was 1/8mi, but the cars got too fast for the limited shutdown. Management proposed a 330' solution, but racers came out in force to say they would boycott a 330' track. Guess what? now they do not run any drag races at all :(

  8. I agree better than nothing, but 330 ft is too short. It becomes a pure starting line contest cutting a light and getting oit of the hole.

I wish that every drag strip was a quarter mile long, but they're not. I wish that there was an eighth mile drag strip like the one right up the road from @Lloyd's paint & glass closer to me, but there isn't. I wish insurance for such a venue wasn't so expensive, but it is. A 330-foot track is just about the same length as the distance between stoplights on a city street. When we were younger, we managed to show who was boss running between stoplights, so what's the problem? At least someone is putting up the dollars and taking action instead of bitching about it.

    Wait......liability insurance ?

Any injury or worse yet - death - Car insurance will null and void everything / won't pay anything.
It'll be in the fine print - reckless driving or racing - the insurance company is not liable.

Not the drivers insurance, the track.

That's what I meant - Liability insurance for the track.
Lawyers will have a field day.

Street car insurance - car insurance will null and void any /all claims.

Yes, lots of developement across Lake Perris Bld. but, Drag Strip is part of The Perris Auto Speedway. Southern California Fair is held on this property too. not their first Rodeo for running race tracks. 20231025_191100.jpg

You’ve got to keep it quiet. We race at the Perris auto speedway 1/2 mile dirt and have a curfew and “adequate” mufflers. There are homes very close.
I hope its open a lot…most street racing is at Oh-dark-30.

  20. As someone else already stated. We ran stop light to stop light many times in our younger days. The thrill of winning is still there. Be thankful that someone is putting the time, effort, and money, to make it happen for us.

That sounds like stoplight-to-stoplight distance, which is perfect for street racers

Ha- just read about a couple of guys spotted going at high speed past a Cop. He caught up with them at next traffic light. They took off when light changed and he hit his lights. one guy pulled over. was given a ticket and car impounded. I was in a simular situation as a teenager. I was the one that kept going. perfect example of why this new "short" strip is great.

I think it's great. I used to love stoplight to stoplight. Had a chance with my POS being kinda quick but not very fast.

Remember, if you have Haggerty insurance and you wreck your car on a race track, tow it to a city street before you call it in. Pick up all the bits and scatter them about at the new accident scene. Perhaps some skid marks and flare residue.

    The times are changing indeed.
I guess its cool that the new "California Street Legal Dragway" has been created, its better than nothing I suppose.
But its not nearly as exciting as a real drag strip such as FAMOSO.

Seeing how the new dragway is close to homes, and noise might eventually be a problem, I cant get this image out of my head, as to how the experience of the new dragway, will be interpreted by those that drive their cars on it !
    Your results may vary !

I wonder if the Street Legal Drags are only 1/4 of the price of a full 1/4 mile track?

it would be a way to practice staging and reaction times. this would help on the street, and especially would help when at a sanctioned strip.
