Another weekend with no work done because I was attending and racing the Oldies but Goodies race. My car isn’t fast but I still had a great time!

When I started this thread several people mentioned that my wheels were not traditional hot rod style. Well, I’m happy to say that some new parts showed up today and along with some work on my car, it has a new look. IMG_6056.jpeg IMG_6052.jpeg IMG_6051.jpeg IMG_6049.jpeg

Great choice of wheels and tires, eliminates the "street rod" look the other wheels gave it.

  6. The wheels made that car.
    What a difference!
Regardless of what wheels it's running, it's your car and as a fellow gearhead I will respect anybody that is willing to drive their car 2000ish miles round trip regardless of what wheels it has.

    Thanks!
This is the look I’ve been wanting since I bought this car. As we all know, things don’t happen all at once. I have a long list of upgrades for the future and I’m going to keep going with these ideas. Right now I’m doing some maintenance to get things ready for my weekend that should be around 800 miles. I’m really enjoying this car!

  8. I hope to get that much seat time in my A pickup.
I am all about driving my cars not showing them.
I know it isn't quite the same thing but About 10 years ago now, I cleaned up a 1960 rambler Super (The midsize rambler with a shorter wheelbase then the ambassador), obviously the rambler was quite a bit newer than then your car but in automotive terms they are both as old as dirt. All I did was Make it reliable and I drove the wheels off it driving from Southern California to Chicago and back, Viva LV twice and pretty much drove it all the time for almost 3 years all over California. The best thing of driving a really old vehicle is most people become friendly, I may never be able to impress a fellow gearhead with my driver quality builds but there's nothing better than a random person that really isn't a car person looking at your car and having a conversation that actually likes your car and they can't believe you are driving a car that is older than them or older than their parents halfway across the country.
I would imagine a model A when you are four or five states away on your license plate really draws a crowd and everybody can't believe you drove it that far.... I have yet to meet a person that doesn't like a '20s or '30s car regardless of the make or model.

  12. Great car and great story. When you get a quiet moment do you ever wonder if you should have started with a “project” type car from the start? Keep on having fun, it looks like you are having a blast.

Honestly, my Hemi build is turning into a ground up build on a whole new car. Since the only part of this car I would use is the body, it makes sense to build from scratch. I’ll keep driving this one until the new one is done. That way there is less push to get it finished so I have something to drive.

I definitely took a step backwards in drivability but it’s been worth it every mile! The look and the personality of this car makes it worth it!

You didn’t mention it, but the white firewall was a nice update too. It looks great with your new wheels and tires. Glad to see you having so much fun with your coupe!

Nice work scrappy ! I tried out the upholstery thing as well and got a chuckle out of the picture with the big bunch of tangled knotted thread. Some of my practice stuff ended up like that way more often than i care to admit. A fist bump and applause for including opie in the pictures and on the rides . Heres my knuckle head at the ready . 20230722_122014.jpg

Scrappy, she's coming along nicely. For some reason it looks familiar to me, maybe because I have a similar one. IMG_3937.jpg

IMG_6889.jpeg IMG_6888.jpeg IMG_6885.jpeg Driving in the rain with no hood creates more maintenance. After getting soaked by a mountain shower I had to take the distributor apart and clean everything up.

I feel like I’d get a lot more work done if I could just stop going to so many events! I can’t help it, I love driving my car. IMG_6906.jpeg

IMG_7657.jpeg IMG_7668.jpeg IMG_7669.jpeg IMG_7673.jpeg IMG_7732.jpeg IMG_7744.jpeg As winter is creeping in I’ve decided to go all in. The new drivetrain will be ready to install sometime in December so I’ve started disassembling everything to make it better. I’ve about got the car gutted and the body should come off tomorrow and dropped off later in the week for media blasting, sheet metal repair and a chop. Once everything is back then the reassembly fun begins. I’m really hoping to have it ready for the spring thaw. This is probably the first year in my life that I’ve hoped for a mediocre ski season! Haha
