Hello, The General Motor Plant at Van Nuys during the grand opening on February 19-21, 1948 although it started production in December 1947. This plant built 6.3 million cars during its lifespan including Chevrolet Advance Design trucks. Later it would produce several different models including Chevrolet full-size (Caprice, Impala, etc.), Chevrolet Corvair. This is where our 1958 Impala was created and completed. Order and delivery was fast as it was a local plant not that far away from Long Beach, CA. (according to the salesman at Cormier Chevrolet in downtown Long Beach in the fall of 1957.) Jnaki As a matter of fact, my wife’s 62 Corvair may have been built here, too. We cannot find any location of Corvairs built elsewhere in late 61 and all through 1962. NOTE: "7867–8010 Van Nuys Blvd., Panorama City 91402 (between Lanark St. and Blythe St.) The General Motors (GM) plant formerly at this address was the last auto plant to leave Southern California during the region’s painful process of deindustrialization." After the demolition of GM Van Nuys in 1998, the site was converted into a shopping center called “The Plant.”
