A couple of months ago, I bought a Model A project that an old fella had started but not able to finish. It has a 1948 flathead V8 in it and I have never been around one, although I have always admired them. To make a long story short, I was able to start the engine yesterday and listen to it run...I am telling you guys this because no one else in my life has any idea how that made me feel. That old motor has a sound like nothing else and I am over the moon....now on to getting this thing drivable.

I just got home from getting a pic of my barn find FED. I've got that feeling all over me. What's really cool, you can get it over and over again. The 39 Coupe in my avatar was my high school car, I had it big time with that one, it was a flatty too. God luck with yours!

Dang. I've got that feeling just sitting here looking at it and reading your post.
    Seriously.
    Happy for you.

  8. Nice project, sure is nice when that unknown engine sings to life. Just curios though; how old is "that old guy"?

The flathead Ford is one of the sweetest sounding V8's ever made.

Now all you have to do is get it driveable/stopable and get that done for him to go for a ride or if he’s able to drive still, get him behind the wheel in a large lot somewhere. ;). You’ll make his day!!!!

    We appreciate you.

Now, you know you have to share a video at some point. Let us hear it run and get that good old feeling, too.

Congrats on the first fire up, that is always exciting no matter how many times you experience it. A bit more exciting with a real hot rod though.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. My next goal is to get a video of it running and pulling out of the garage for it's virgin trip around the block.

  23. I just experienced that sort of thing myself with the guy that let me buy the model a, and a bunch of guys that gather on Mondays. It was a rush for us all. 9FC421EA-BA00-4FB8-B657-FA49ACCEFC5E.jpeg

  24. One Monday was to get it running, the next was to get it driving. There was easily 200 years of experience in the “ boiler room” where we gather. What a great hobby. 0A4CC311-0EE2-4D44-8A40-4BA582B45E5F.jpeg

Men aren't able to experience giving birth, but when you fire up an engine for the first time... well that's close enough!
Congrat's on a cool lookin' rod! Make it stop, make it go and start wearin' out tires!!

  26. No, actually passing a kidney stone is like giving birth! The first start-up is like a great big orgasm. I'm just sayin'...
