Remember goin to Auto Parts on Telephone Rd an askin for a case of oil

Guy brings out 12 quarts, I said I need a case, he says, is a case

24 versus 12.... instead of half price was more per quart ...

There used to be a shady local body man around here, they called him Bondo Bob. The joke was-he bought Bondo by the 55 gallon drum. Always got a laugh out of that.

Don't feel short changed, just think how much less there is to sand, as it all ends up on the floor anyway, right?

  11. I have noticed "Shrinkflation" for several years now. I used to point it out to my wife. When we lived in Connecticut the law was implemented to reflect the cost per ounce, or per unit. All of the major grocery stores comply with this now. It is very simple for you. Just pay attention. And I agree, that some times the smaller package is a better buy than the larger package. There is a grocery store here in Pennsylvania that has a big sign in the window, "Over 4,000 items on sale ". That doesn't mean they are reduced price, it just means that they are just items for sale, not "On sale ". Sneaky, aren't they.

It's the metric system that's caused all of this. As @squirrel mentions, in 1979 a fifth of whiskey was 1/5th of a U.S. liquid gallon, or 25.6 U.S. liquid ounces. Since the metric system took over the liquor industry, a fifth is now 750 ml, the equivalent of 25.4 U.S. liquid ounces. To put it more simply, if there are 2 pints in a quart and 4 quarts in a gallon, then there are 8 pints in a gallon. If I drink a "fifth" of Scotch, and a fifth of 8 pints is 1.6 pints, will my doctor believe that I've actually cut back on my drinking? That would be kind of like thinking that using a smaller can of filler will result in less sanding, right? ;)

I’d bet if I drank a 1/5th of whiskey, my doctor would see me and say “he lived a good life, until now” ;)

If you buy the whiskey, I would be willing to give it a try. One drink at a time.:D

Case of beer used to be 24 cans, now a case is 12 cans, two six packs. We’d go to the county line and get a half case, two six packs.
Stuff must be stronger now, one can will do to me what six used to….

Feel free to correct me, but I was told as a kid the term "5th" related to a bottle of booze being a 5th short of a quart, that it was referenced as to what was missing in a manner of speaking.

25.4 is about 4/5ths of a qt, no? A "5th short" like I was told long ago.

Sheesh, you guys sound like a bunch of grumpy old men. Why, I remember when gas only cost a quarter a gallon, and I made $1.75/hour. I had a fake ID, and Boones Farm was $2.00 a bottle, we didn't measure it, but I was always surprised when someone accepted that ID as real and sold it to me!!

You can believe these companies have had a phalanx of lawyers parse every word and punctuation mark that appear on the label as well as the packaging and product content.

  25. WTF? Bama must be messed up. A case is still 24, many brands also sell 30 packs. 12 cans is a TWELVE PACK in the rest of the Country

Youngster! I remember nineteen cent a gallon gas, $1.25 wages building airplanes and Ripple was 69 cents. Never got asked for ID until after I turned 21. I think I was born old. ;)

An optimist says the can is half full. A pessimit says the can is half empty. A engineer says you have twice a much can as you need.
