Technical Performance online-how are they to deal with?

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by The Chevy Pope, Oct 8, 2023.

  1. So looking for rear end conversion stuff and lowering blocks for my 53 I came across listings for what I need by performance online. Just wondering if they are half decent quality and if they ship out quickly. So far them and Western chassis were the only ones I found with what I need.....but I've heard bad things about Western chassis

Never heard of performance online. I don't reckon Speedway has what you're needing?

  3. I looked at speedway first because they always ship fast. But the closest blocks to what I need are wrong. I can probably use their perch kits though.

I bought parts from them for a '69 Elco quite a few years ago, with no issues. Don't know how the are now.

Last time I went to order from them, most of what I needed was out of stock. Best I can remember, you had to call for availability.

I rebuilt the front end on my 59 chevy. I pulled off the axle and made it new. In the process I upgraded to disc brakes, sway bar, dual pot master. I was only doing the front at the time but got enough to do both axles. I started work in 2018, placed my order in November 2019. I worked over the winter making everything perfect two hours at a time. April 2020 I finally got to the bleed part of the front brakes. The bolts that held in the brake lines to the caliper had a small head. They began to leak and started stripping as I was attempted to eliminate the leak. I called POL up, they were very cordial and helpful. I sent some pictures and they sent me new bolts for the front and back brakes, I received them in two days. -At this point we were still in full lock down and mail slowdown.

Fast forward to December 2022 (4 years later). Life gets in the way of our beloved projects. I was finally finished rebuilding my rear axle and it was time to assemble the disc brake kit. The brake pads were not fitting around the disc. I thought I was screwed. I figured whats the worst they can do? Hang up on me? I called, gave my order number and just like before they were very cordial and helpful. They asked for pictures and helped me work out the issue. The brake pads were thick and had an extra piece of metal on them. Easily resolved but they actually took the time to work with me and it did not feel like they were doing me a favor.

I have nothing but good things to say about them. From sales to returns and tech support, all great people. As for their parts fit and finish was great with the exception of the two issues they made good on. The parts were nicely powder coated and went together as they were supposed to. The cost of the parts was not bad either. I have a thread of what I did. I have listed what all came from them. They did not pay me to say that and I don't have a vested interest with them.

I have not had to deal with Speedway's support. Most of what I get is from them is stuff I have done before and doesn't require any help. Generally I have used their parts when I can to avoid Classic Parts of America.

Classic Parts of America tech support you will likely be treated as a third class citizen. They are rude, nasty and condescending. Sales and returns are mostly cordial.

All the dealings I have had with them are fine , I once drove to their facility to pick up some parts it's a big place with a showroom full of hot rods.

  8. I've bought a few things from them for my 57 pickup, rear axle installation kit, sway bars, firewall brake mount kit, etc. all of it has been really good quality.

I ordered 2 adjustable panhard bars for a 62 and a 64 Chevy full size 2 years ago. They showed up in Canada reasonably quickly. Went to put one on my car, both threaded ends were full of metal shavings, and one end had really tight and poorly machined threads. I cleaned up the threads and it has worked great since, but the quality and fit and finish left a lot to be desired. On the second one, it was still full of shavings but both threads were good. There's definitely some rushing and inconsistency in their manufacturing process.

  10. I'll just be ordering weld on spring perches and lowering blocks. Those should be ok through them right?

  13. I've used them so small things with no problems, but remember they're most likely a reseller of parts not the manufacture.

Winter before last @ work we did a lot of upgrading to a customers new-to-her 1954 GMC pickup.
Customer and tech both requested I (parts guy) get as many wish list items from a single source as possible.
We settled on Brother's. If I could go back in time and kick myself in the shin I would.
Never have I ever in all my years dealt with such a piss-poor outfit. They have since been purchased by Holley, can't speculate on anything that's happened since then but if they maintained any of their staff from before the buyout I would caution anyone against using them, very strongly.

Why bitch about them you ask? Because, partway through the nightmare process I'd found myself in, I realized many of the items I was receiving from them were actually just P.O.L boxes with Brother's tape slapped over them. I ended up calling P.O.L a handful of times looking for assistance (both technical and psychological at that point) and even though they were not responsible for any of the dropped balls on Brother's end they were more than understanding, sympathetic and helpful. From those few calls alone I would not hesitate to recommend them to others, and in fact I have a couple times since.

You mean you didn't use the Chevy/GM parts house just down the road? I'd cut off my right foot before dealing with him again.

We have used Scott many times over the years and I personally have no complaints...although as with most things, individual results may vary.
When I told him of my woes with Brother's he was not surprised, he says he'd quit dealing with them years prior for the exact same reasons.

  18. Well......Gotta go back awhile in years.........Bear with me here- Was looking at a disc front set up for my 50 Merc. I saw a listing and called. I guess I was lucky to talk to the owner (maybe at the time)........ He stated that he had patterned the kit for his own Merc, a 51, and production was now in place, so I ordered. He explained all parts used, what was what, and what to do.......... Everything was as described/said.
After a week or so of mock up, I was missing a bag of bolts.......= No biggee, but they were the correct length/dia's.
I called back, and the phone person said hold on- Here is the owner again....... Sorry Mr.B, we will handle this promptly. Everything ok? Any Q's?..........
Two day's later, the bolts show, and everything is good.
This kit has been on my car for 15+ years, and not a worry..........
So, I gotta give props for the product, and the service I got. But, time's change, and so do companies......
    Just my .02C............

  19. I haven’t ordered anything from them yet, but I have a big wish list of stuff for my 50 3100. @gimpyshotrods turned me on to them. Their stuff looks pretty cool, especially for someone with my meager fabrication skills. I gotta finish this $&@“%}*€£ trailer project and get it out of my shop, then it’s Chevy truck project time!!

I bought the dual pot master cylinder with the brackets and the disc brake conversion kit for my 51 I’m gathering parts for and they have always been helpful and even though some of the parts are on back order they still took time to call me with updates to let me know when they will be shipped out to me so I cannot complain about the concern and service that you get from them.

  22. So far not real impressed. So far it has been nearly a week since I received an email from them saying order processed and they yet to even print a shipping label. I'll call them Monday. If no real answer then I'll charge back and find someone else to get blocks from. And to think I was more concerned ordering from mooneyes .....yet mooneyes had my taillights at the post office two days ago..... despite me making the order after I placed the order with pol lol

You may be too young to remember “4-6 weeks” delivery days. Sure seems in this thread is well in favor of them.

  24. This isn't 1999 though lol. And they had the cash off my card a full day before they confirmed the order. I could understand if backordered. But if that's the case an email saying such would be nice. And would have resulted in a lot more patience on my end. Mooneyes on the other hand not only sent me updates but the person actually handling my order sent me verification emails from their personal email. NGL.....when I saw "Kiku Komatsu" in my emails I half expected it to be some Nigerian prince kinda deal.....but nope legit and just thorough lol

No kidding. I just ordered some new tires and chains for my snow clearing tractor from a local distributor. They emailed me the next morning telling me their website had an error and the tires won't be in stock for 4-6 weeks. They outlined 3 options for how to proceed (including cancelling the entire order) and were very cordial. That's how you conduct business to have customers return.

I don't own a chevy, but it's great to hear that this company POL is providing good parts and service.
A while back, someone posted about Holley's clearance sale and a bunch of Brother's stuff was in the bin. Not knowing anything about the company, I forwarded a basic point in that direction to someone. They said that getting stuff across the border (US to Canada) made it a hassle and thanks anyway. Now I'm glad they didn't bite on the stuff.

  29. Not exactly experienced good service from pol and definitely don't know their part quality yet lol

  30. Yeah these lowering blocks are the only thing I'll order from them. Finally called and got through after being on hold twenty minutes. Apparently they were back ordered on the u bolts.... said likely another two weeks. An email the day after the order was cleared would have been nice. Rest of what I was going to buy off them I'll just buy off eBay
