The Gilmore Car Museum's Wednesday cruise nights get that many almost every week. And, nobody has ever spun a Mustang into a light pole leaving...

  3. I finally got some free time to put paint on the roadster frame and also the gas tank. Hillbilly paint booth worked okay, more to keep the overspray out of the shop than anything.
The frame will have to be blocked and recoated, too much orange peel. I know how to correct it, just got in too big of a hurry. I love the color. frame.jpg

Finished prepping the 34 Grille and hung it back up on the wall, Grille bars are pitted (not rotted) new owner will have to have it chrome plated. first pic is before the cleanup.

I worked on the floor… again. I continue to love it, so I’m not so sad it’s taking a while. It’s really my fault for making it more complex than it needs to be, but that’s kind of the fun part.

I hope to get a little Test n Tune in on Dec.2 at Farmington. So I put some slicks on and took my mufflers off, Lol. The slick combo weighs in at 36 lbs ea. and the other set up are 49lbs ea. The slicks are about an inch shorter so that is a plus also as the 4.10 could stand to be a 4.88. I have one aluminum brake drum and need to find one more, my mind is blank on what years they used them. Maybe the early 80's ? They came on mid size GM's. We drove the family around, packed into the ‘55 and went through a couple neighborhoods looking at the Christmas decorations already up. Lots of people were out bbq-ing in front of their homes (very common in the RGV) and waving at us while we cruised on by.

  9. My 86 Buick T-Type had aluminum drums, 8.5 inch rear, not 8.2 if that matters

It helps , Thanks. I have not pursued one to hard yet but it is on my list. The drums would just be a nice addition on this old truck.

Went to the junkyard today to look for an alt pulley, but that was a no go. I did end up getting a CD player off their shelf hooked it up to the battery charger and got her working.

Got the tach and tach cup installed and wired up. Started redoing the exhaust. Didn’t like how the first system was going. Was able to get from the headers to the mufflers. Just have to figure out the tail pipe and how far to take it back. IMG_1231.jpeg

I received a new hammer from MP&C. It was so beautifully finished that I had to dress up my hammer collection so it wouldn’t stick out so much, though I certainly didn’t go as far as he did. His work is just outstanding.

  26. Pulled the frame off the rotisserie, loosely assembled the suspension and installed the engine. Things are finally going on, not off. IMG_1951.jpg

    IMG_1465.jpeg IMG_2029.jpeg IMG_2034.jpeg IMG_2144.jpeg ‘40 Coupe I purchased in 1958 - time for a refresh - long process but very rewarding:

Cleaned up inside of dash then applied white enamel (read a suggestion on the H.A.M.B. to paint under-dash white as it makes it easier to see what’s what) indeed it does make it easy to see…

After removing all the paint, directionally sanded front with various grits, final 400 grit created a pleasant finish at least until I can decide a better cover coat.

  28. Mounted a vacuum tank from a 60 chevy on the passenger side beneath the floor/firewall, above the inner guard /wheel well cover on my 53 business coupe. IMG_20231206_154936.jpg
I had to modify the cover somewhat, with a couple of recessed dimples to mount on the studs and a bulge to clear the corner of the tank. IMG_20231206_154950.jpg
Plenty of underseal on all the components.
    IMG_20231206_155805.jpg
Then fasten it all back up in position. Out of site, out of the visible engine bay, but convenient to connect hose and booster. IMG_20231206_160432.jpg
    Cheers.

OK, pistons all cleaned up on my Mercury 260 rebuild. So figured I’d break out the micrometer and feeler gauges for some inspection.
Clearance between top compression ring and the land is supposed to be no more than .006”. I’m getting.010”! I was like how the hell…..this engine is in pretty good shape, now this! I was already looking over the Summit racing website for replacement pistons when I read the little “mm” on my feeler gauges! I had grabbed my sons metric set by mistake. :)
Now measuring at .004” with the correct tool!
