    Uh oh.....

  5. its all good. in fact im going to pull 300 lbs of street stuff off the car and run it weather permitting oct 7th at the grove. it will be very hopped up. im kind of over the drag and drive stuff. this all started out as a experiment to see if i could do a nitro street car. to do drag week and compete in the A class today you need huge money and a slow pro mod along with a high dollar tuner. not to mention to do the week costs about 5 to 7 grand for my car fuel and hotels. im thinking of making the coupe a drag only car. i will either run the same combination or go with a tfx block and aj stage two heads. these parts are billet and dont have provisions for water. they are much more durable and easier to fix if things go bad. the nitro chaos events and the fuel altered nationals is where the car would fit in. my 66 chevelle is close to being done. if i feel like a drag and drive event i could use that. 427/4spd

How'd the car run at the fallout? ET? MPH?

  7. I didn't go because I got mandated to work. The car was ready.

  8. Well would you just look at that. Madison Classics is using the car on all of their promo items for spring 2024. Shirts; flyers mailers; posters etc. How cool is that?

Make it fast on gas. To hech with this carnage.

  12. It's already fast on gas. 8.5/154 in street trim.

Gotta admit, this made me a little sad. I only know of one nitro street car - yours. The thing makes me grin the same way that pictures of Art Arfons or Willie Borsch do. All three of you are nuts, in the most respectful way :).

Having said that, it takes an enormous amount of pain to do what you do. Respect the decision to bring the beast back to strip only.

    Cheers,
    Harv

  14. What ever I take off the car I can easily put back on if I want to street drive it again.

  16. The red shut off valve and bypasses are no longer needed. They will come off the barell valve on the hat. Much cleaner.

Ted and I were thinking of you when we went to the Nevada Nationals today, and saw some of the current fuel cars running. Ted was following along in 2018 on Drag Week, so you met him then. (he's wearing the blue shirt with his back to the camera)

  19. I think we are knocking the heads off in front of the hotel in that pic. Fun times doing drag week coming home with stories to tell.
The 66 chevelle is getting closer everyday to getting back on the road. I don't need two street cars. The chevelle will become the drag week car. I haven't forgotten my street racing past. The chevelle is being built to drive the country's roads.
There will be some big time nitro tech coming very soon. Stuff you never thought of. Now that it's going in a race car direction it opens up all kinds of cool parts. Parts chosen for speed and durability. I will bring everyone along on the next steps of this journey. My focus now is match racing and the nitro chaos events.

Best of luck with this Venture, Brian! If anyone can make it work, you're the one that can do it!

One of my favorite threads of all time. Thanks for taking us along Brian. Missed being able to talk to u at the fallout this year.

  22. Another piece of the new puzzle was bought. Because I don't need both distributors or the dual drive I needed a single mag drive. My alcohol funny car neighbor just happened to have a brand new RCD offset drive on the shelf. This is the highest quality piece made. So why do you need a offset drive? Because it allows you to remove the head without pulling the mag. With how much these engines come apart it very helpful for obvious reasons. To make the offset they can be run with a cogged belt or the latest way with a u joint. The drives come several ways. The old Mallory four pin is the least desirable.
The steel cross works good. The latest uses aluminum and rubber to prevent chatter.
The base is bolted in place with the offset pointed forward. 20231030_102550.jpg 20231030_102528.jpg 20231030_103247.jpg Timing adjustments are made by turning the generator. Very heavy band clamp is used do to the very high resistance to turn the rotor. My mag puts out 49.8 amps. For comparison a vertex mag on a good day might make one Amp to maybe 1.5 amps. You don't want to get lit up by my mag.

  23. What do you expect the car to run in it’s strictly race mode?

  24. It's already gone 6.8 in the quarter. I'm looking for low 6s. In the 1/8 low 4s.

  25. Impressive!

  26. X-mas in November. Brand new Allen Johnson stage two billet nitro heads. These are the go to head for a 426 based hemi without going into exotic rod and piston valve train parts. These have single plug 165cc chambers. The valve angles are 45 degree and 55 degree. There are no fuel rails cut into them. They are 3/8 guides for the intake and exhaust. The larger stems help keep the valves straight do to the tremendous heat they see. Std valve covers fit. The intake uses only 6 studs. Typical big show design. Stock was 16. My old heads were 10. I will reuse my stage five engineering rockers. These heads have solid one piece hoops set at .018 off the deck. This is a change from the stainless wire I ran in the old heads. A billet block can use hoops .025 off the deck for more bite. They torque the heads to 165 lbs. I have a cast block so I can only torque them to 135 lbs before thread's can get pulled. That's with a 9/16th stud. The top of the blocks sleeves will require some attention to run the hoops. The receiver groove will be cut deeper and wider. These heads are solid billet with no provisions for water. This car is going in a whole new direction so pull the belts tight and follow along on some new adventures. 20231113_145501.jpg 20231113_145501.jpg 20231113_145433.jpg 20231113_145418.jpg 20231113_145413.jpg
