Damn, we’ve been turned into a bunch of restorers! Correct clamp, correct clocking, date coded…. Some of y’all making this too complicated! It’s a clamp, not a Swiss watch!
If I am trying to care that day, I try to install them so the screw is on the bottom or “hidden” side of the hose, most days I just put them where they are the easiest to get at.
Your friendly local HVAC shop should have those large diameter hose clamps. If not, there's always 200 MPH duct tape. I like red myself .
I bought some of those repop '40 Ford style band clamps for my T build for the look but they ended up leaking, no matter how tight. They've since been replaced with worm drive clamps. I don't remember where but I found an ad or a patent or something for a worm drive clamp as early as 1938, they're definitely period correct for a right-after WWII era build.
From the land of disappointment: my new Norma clamps don't say 'made in Germany,' instead they say 'made for Norma' whatever that means. They look the same, but it plays with my mind.
That's a joke, right?...... Tell me you're kidding. It's gotta be a leg pull. Surely you're not serious......
I know not really "period correct" But a very good piece I have used when you don't want to trash your hoses on high torque applications. Swedish Style Meatballs are also good. Personally I would just throw Ideal on any build as the parts store stuff is junk. If you want to go above and beyond, give them a nice coat of gloss black and that with the rubber looks stellar but also not period correct. EH.....
yes they did. ^^^^^^ I can remember dad doing concourse cars in the shop when I was a little guy (late 50s early '60s) that had to have the right clamp, but all the hot rods that went through the shop got worm clamps. At least that was what was hangin on the board on the wall (in various sizes).
No, they're not. As for tower clamps, I've never took one off without twisting it out of shape. They should be subjected to the treatment for bolts with damaged threads, placed on the anvil and smashed.
Oh my God, Is this horse dead yet? Seems to be a gap Sun provided a different version screw clamp to secure their tachometers to the steering column.
Because a SS screw will gall onto the SS band and wreck the clamp, just when you put that last little tweek of the driver on it, plain steel won't do that.
