    Hello,

At low tide, the walk around the exposed rocks in the background allows anyone brave enough to tip toe around the Headlands Point cliffs at water level and end up at the Dana Point Harbor. (at the time of the photo, there was no enclosed harbor… created in 1971) But, only if it is extreme low tide. It is a fun walk, but dangerous. If the tide comes in, there are places where you will be trapped. So, plan accordingly.

    Jnaki

We took the walk at the beginning of the water being drawn out at the low tide. It was not the extreme low tide, but there were enough rocks showing to get across to the other side of the deepest rocky shore waters to get to the secluded beach. From there, it is a walk in front of the old Killer Dana surf spot and up above on the cliff side, are several homes from the 60s that are still there. Around the big cliff is the Dana Point Harbor. YRMV

    Note:
Back then and up to the fifties, only a rocky shoreline cove that went around the point to the big Cove shoreline area. Today, the Cove area is the Marine Institute museum and classrooms.

And my great Grandfather used to fill them and sell them on the dirt roads outside of town in the middle of the night.
