  1. And, then we went on a cruise around Canberra some to see some sights.

  2. And, now I am back in Sydney and will fly back to the states in the morning. It has been an amazing trip and I am so thankful for the hospitality of so many Aussies whether here giving me ideas of what to do, getting me in contact with folks to haul me around, or especially those that opened their shops, homes, etc. This has to be my most memorable work trip ever being able to get out and hang out with lots of local hot rodders. :)

The local club in Canberra even gave me some things to remember them by. :) The pic on the plate is the same location as one of the pics we took today posted above…just about 55 years earlier. Oh, and I might be smuggling some number plates back to the states as well but we won’t talk about that until I get home and get them mounted on the wall in my shop (or shed as I now call it. :D)

Man that’s how you do a work trip!

kinda fun that your on a garage crawl on the other side of the planet and you still spot @IronTrap t shirts in the crowd. The hot rodding world really is a small one.

Thanks for taking us all along!

  9. In your last batch of photos there's a shot of a sign on a wall of his "shed" above a door or window frame that reads "DIDJABRINGYATINNIES". Did you ask if that refers to "tinnies" meaning tin snips or cans of beer? I'm guessing it's the latter. :p

    And by the way, TANSTAAFL!

  10. Wishing the trip could last another week or so looking out the hotel room in Sydney. I have met so many great folks down here and need to figure out how to get down for a vacation sometime. :D I’m sure I could spend two weeks just hanging out with car guys without the work part of the trip. :)

Didn't Tex Smith wind up there too, as did I believe Dick Megugarac (sp?) a.k.a. "Magoo" from SoCal? And maybe others. From what I've seen in this thread, I can see why. Beautiful country and great car people.
Went through this whole thread and as everyone else has said, thanks a bunch @guthriesmith for taking us along.
    Trip of a lifetime indeed!

We have quite a few places named using local language. Didjabringyatinnies, Didjabringyagrogalong, Wherethahellarwee, Werediputmibere...

    Cheers,

We do some nice, HAMB friendly "tinnies" too. Dave did the paint-and-panel on my avatar, and owns the vintage hydro below... complete with Merlin

Did you get to see a real Wombat in Australia? In Australia as you probably noticed we like to use one word and give it two or three meanings at a minimum. For instance to call someone a Wombat it might be because they sleep a lot, they might be like a Wombat, Eats roots shoots and leaves or it could be that they are just a bit dopey.
