Finish welding on 1950 sprint car frame for my show room. Built removable ends to attach to engine stands for painting.

 

Nice ! Did you add the extra bracing on the lift feet ? Ive never noticed the gussets & flat braces on one before.

 

We have a Challenger brand at the shop that has those. Nice trip hazard if your not carful.

 

Made it home safely. Cleaning it up before it takes a nap until I get home again for Christmas.

 

Interesting.

I fit my main floor pieces to the rear outer corner. So the inner bound edge is laying flat on the floor, not curving up at all. And I left the seats in, so the carpet covers the bolts. Seems to work fine this way.

Too bad about the hole for the shifter, that would have been kind of modern looking, though? And you'd have lost your ash tray, and we all know how important an ash tray is for storing spare nickels and dimes.

In the end, it looks great!

 

Good choice for the salt and pepper carpet, looks way better.

 

I made the effort today before the rain shows up to get started on the truss for the carport. Did get the first one up. Had to use a piece of heavy wall tubing to extend the boom for height and to keep the legs from contacting the wall before it was stood up. This won't be a problem with the rest of them. Now that I have a system that won't kill me this should go smooth for the rest of this project.

 

Never heard of Salt & Pepper carpet before.. Ive only paid attention to the "loop" & color.

When I bought the new leg tubing it was 1/4 inch wall and wouldn't just slide together like the thin wall these cheap carport are made with originally so I'm having to make sleeves to attach the trusses to the legs and the one floor rail that will be against the closed West wall. The east side (by my basement door) will have the base of the legs welded to a plate and anchored to the concrete. This will take care of any trip hazards walking between the legs and also easy to roll jacks, engine hoist and any wheeled carts or equipment. I also welded in some heavy angle to support across the peak of the truss. This used carport has some bow in the trusses from heavy snow load is my guess. It was built with the roof tin in the horizonal direction, my plan it to install in vertical so snow will have a better chance of sliding off.

 

I brought my extra 324 Olds up from LA. I delivered the Vauxhall gasser to Mike VV and didn’t want to drive home with an empty trailer so now the old Olds is up here in NorCal where I can clean it and give it some TLC. No idea what I’m gonna do with it yet.

Without the rain gear….

 

The rodent is almost done. Probably gunna fire it off on Turkey day.

 

I have been working on this 34 Ford Grille , now it's back on the wall again.

 

The rodent is alive and well pay no attention to the high tech zip tie radiator mount gotta paint run stand and wire it now.

@Dave Mc has quite the treasure wall going there. Lumpy - That's a rat everyone can like. Looks tough with the painted VCs.

 

It appears as though a water pump replacement will be the next project on my 49 Dodge pickup, and its coming soon, real soon.

What should be a 2-3 hour job will likely be much longer. I have to remove the hood to gain access, and then the pump buried down there in a pretty tight working space. It takes 2 people to remove and reinstall the hood without scratching up the paint.
Pic 1, This is the hood, just before the paint. Front to back is just over 4' long. One guy has to move it from the front center. You grab the hood sides and sort of flop it on. I'm 6'1", sitting in place on the truck, the lowest point on the hood is above my belly.
Pic 2, The water pump is the lowest pulley in this pic, the fan shroud in front of the water pump is the electric fan that is attached to the radiator, hopefully I won't need to remove it. Everything above the water pump has to come off because all that mess is bolted to water pump mounting bolts (factory engineering, not mine).
I know you are all feeling sorry for me now...

 

Have the same problems didnt show up until my late 50s Im 71 now and use a hand truck for anything heavier than a 6 pack

 

Fixing trans leaks on my 56 Victoria finished resealing the torque converter. Stuffed the trans back in. Pan gasket was leaking as well so here we go pull it too, was stuck hard thought I had a bolt started in case it fell off while I was prying on it, guess what, it popped along with what oil I didnt get drained hit me soaked my best sunday work shirt. what the hell time to call it a day, been snowing all day anyway.

 

Installed the driveline. I ordered it from Strange Engineering. First time I ever ordered one. Fit was perfect.

 

Went and picked up my buddy Steves Olds and hauled it back to the shop for some A pillar repair

 

Chased all the threads on my ‘62 260. Bottoming taps showed up today.

 

Lumpy, the only pictures you seem post of my brother is his back side. Glad to see it's heading to the shop for the welding and then some glass.

 

Today I moved the rest of the stuff that was in front of the inner garage door to get the Henry J out, because it's ready for the first test drive. To many heavy pieces that's for sure, I was ready to call it a day as soon as I started.



But I kept plugging away even though my back was crying, decided to move the 57 over to line up with the outside door behind it. I used the cheap harbor freight $7 dollar furniture dollies under the wheels, front first so I could keep the rear wheels chocked.



Then the back, pretty sure it'll sneak out, after I move all the stuff behind the truck which I did move a portion of that also.

Bicycle hanging from rafters. Thought I was the only one that done that. Took 2 down but still have one hanging around. Got to love the old bikes.

 

That bike was a ton of fun at parties here, two drunks trying to make the corner always ended up in a crash and a ton of laughs lol
I do have a couple old bikes stashed in the loft above the inner garage, that tandem is 7 ft long, maybe longer, it takes up a ton of space on the floor and you need a long bed pickup to haul it anywhere.

 

Good for you and the first drive. Would you let me know how the less springs on the front axle work. I think I need to remove some on mine and would like to know how it rode.

I'm only going to run it up the block and back, not really a first drive, I won't be doing that until next year.

 

Got the transmission in the 56 Victoria just a few loose ends to tie up, then have to replace the wheel cyls on all four corners, wanted to rebuild them but when I inquired of the "lady" at the parts house about rebuild kits she laughs. So I had to buy new cyls. Last time I did this kits were around a buck and a half a piece, cyls are now $22.00. kinda dates me I guess. two things wrong here as I see it #1 is "lady" at the parts house, #2 is guess all you have to be able to do to work at the parts house is run a computer and ask a few questions like what engine and model, computer says we dont have those but you can get theses. They dont even have to look unless you want the part then she tells you something is wrong computer says we have 2 but there is none on the shelf, the computer must not have reordered, but I can have them in the morning. So guess what I wait a day to finish.
