A 65, I will tell you about the 67 sometime. If you look at many of the FED pictures of the later 60's, there were a lot of Ford tow/push trucks. I remember when Ed McCulloch had a new green one to tow the M&M Top Fueler.

I don't know a thing about this car's history or success but cosmetically it's just painful to look at. Then again, many of my favorite cars from the 60's weren't real attractive.

That's a "Street Roadster" -- you know -- something you'd just drive down to the local store for some ice cream or something.

Thanks Stan…I was sort of thinking, that roadster could use some explaining!

Thanks for opening that door Greg!
When I first saw that car earlier today all I could think of was "that just looks like a fish out of water".
The same feeling I got when I saw the Ramchargers High and Mighty car in magazine many years ago .

    Hello,

We may have seen this version at Lions in 1958, but the photos/movies never showed the hood off to showcase the motor.

"Koenig and Sundin sedan, usually ran an injected Chrysler, this shows a blown Olds with the sidedraft carb setup that Joe Reath used on the Raker's Car Club Chrysler. Koenig and Sundin and the Rakers both had Reath sponsorship so this may a merging of two projects, one the car and one the engine. It looks like the blower is driven by a single chain."

So, my “secret” filming location was standing as close to the whizzing racers from the Orange tower side location.

I am still looking for recorded sound from the white Model A Altered Sedan from Reath Automotive. It had to be the loudest sedan motor sound, ever. At least 90% of the people, including the racers in the pits covered their ears when it fired up or staged in front of the bleachers. When they took off from the starting line, watch out!!! Pure drag racing from this historic time period.

Frank "Ike" Iacono #99 Vs. Joe Koenig Reath Auto

This race of old hot rod Altered Coupes/Sedans would have been great watch.

Agreed Doug! I'm always reminded that the early days of drag racing were filled with cars that were in many cases designed with the addage; "form follows function". Both of these cars are great examples of that. I miss the great diversity in cars, engines and go-fast methods of the early days which was true grass-roots engineering that dominated the sport. I still enjoy drag racing but class rules are more restricting and it's so much about opening a catalog and buying what you need versus modifying (or fabricating your own) parts to achieve a better result.

The early "sidewinder" chain drive dragsters are a good example.
They have always been appealing to me mostly due to the fact that many of them, as with most racing efforts of the period were derived purely by backyard engineering.
The same goes with those first chain driven superchargers, there had to have been a lot of late night head scratching to get these cars screwed together back then.
I've said many times that I wish I had been born ten years sooner so I could have been a participant in the late 50's/early 60's drag racing scene.
