Hot Rods What should I do?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Nov 6, 2023.

  1. Cragar SS wheels were introduced in 1964

  2. Irrelevant. They belong on Muscle cars.

  11. Wide whites on those stock wheels and lowered a bit.

  13. Lower the front a couple inches to get the fender opening to be closer to the tire. It looks like it is sitting low in the ass end right now, needs a slight rake to the front instead of to the back. I like 5-spokes, but instead of Cragars, go with Astro Supremes and skinny whites. Or straight spoke as-cast Americans or similar.

At one lug nut a day surely you’ve swapped out 3 of the 4 wheels and tires out by now?

Ya know you could also just give it "fuck off" stance with some natural Americans and bigger/smaller tires, gently raised like a street racer. It only leads to better from there.

  17. Can Someone please photoshop theses wheels on my wagon? Leave the height alone for this one, I just want to see the wheels as the only change. My buddy gave me these last night and the amount of fade is about perfect. THX!

With all due respect, you don't need to see what they'll look like first-- they'll look fabulous. Just get some tires mounted on 'em and get rolling.

There ya go! Perfect for your car. It's not a show car, you use it, and those wheels are gonna look great.

For a no thrills , gutless utiliy driver type 55 4dr Chevy, skinny blackwalls (205/75-15s) on stock wheels and poverty caps are just perfect for me. I had cargar s/s on mine, and that look just out of place on my grocery getter .And yes, we´ve got snow. :eek:yours is a 2dr station, I think you could go anyway you like, but your color combo asks for something conservative , but that ´s just my 0.00 cents worth.

    Hello,

My friend from our surf adventures, long road trips all over So Cal coastlines and even into Baja, Mexico campouts, always enjoyed the camaraderie of friends. But, he was a single guy, recently moved into his own apartment, between our Westside of Long Beach house and his then, current job across the PCH highway. He was his own boss running a finishing and glassing/sanding surfboards from several manufacturers with colors, designs and sanding/polishing. There was no question as to which surf shop brought in the blanks to be glassed and finished for sales or displays.

He was one of the only teens that had pocket money and it seemed like he was always in awe of anyone who customized or modified their daily drivers. although he liked my Flathead 40 sedan delivery as stock as I left it, bare bones and all, including a small hanging from the rear view mirror, portable am radio for our great sounds… ha!

But, because he was paying for the apartment, his weekly funds were always more than us, but too low to do anything to his 55 Chevy 4 door station wagon. He bought it used, but in fairly good shape. He wanted to get it painted and add some chromed reversed wheels, but again, his finances were not in great shape.

    Jnaki

What he learned was to leave it alone, as long as it runs well, is reliable when any road trips was on the future books. He had a great time and if any 4 door 55 Chevy wagon is seen in an early surf parking lot photo, it was probably his. Early surfing was allowed as he did not start work until 10 am. So, he had good sessions from daybreak to around 9:30 am, then a dash to get to the Westside of Long Beach to sand and glass about 15 to 20 surfboards or get them ready for pickup and/or delivery.

    Note:
We had talked about doing some custom things to his station wagon, but we knew his monetary situation was a big hindering factor. If he did not live where he did, he would have had extra money to do some accessory changes to make his surfing wagon a cruiser.

The one thing he knew would make his old 4 door 55 Chevy wagon stand out was going to be a set of American Racing Equipment 5 Spoke Mag wheels that just came out for street use. We had seen them on race cars at Lion’s Dragstrip, but none on the street.

He did not get the American Racing 5 spokes as it was going to be over half of his salary. So, we lowered the front end slightly and that gave it enough of an attitude over a stock height station wagon.

Even if you kept the color you have on the Chevy wagon, the addition of American Racing 5 spokes would make any hot rod/cruiser a step above the rest. It instantly would give it some credibility as a cool cruiser. Add those to a lowered rake station wagon or even with normal height, it is worth it for the installation.

If my wife and I owned a Chevy two door station wagon as our daily cruiser, it would look like this local So Cal 56 Chevy wagon… instant class and styling… YRMV

Note 2: My brother and I had talked about getting a 55 or 56 Chevy station wagon for towing our 671 SBC Willys Coupe for local So Cal drags and for the goal of the 1960 U.S. Nationals.

    upload_2024-1-25_3-46-23.png

I wanted a red 1955 2 door station wagon, My brother wanted a yellow 56 Chevy wagon. So, we kept at it until it was beyond our reach.
