I used one of those on all my drag cars. They work great!! NHRA required an external master switch.

The simple cutoff in post 901 also requires some fancy wiring to keep a charging system happy and still cut off. You have tidy stuff in your plans.

Big day today. Drove my coupe around the neighborhood, for the very first time. Everything went as expected. Clutch felt great and with the light car and 22 pound flywheel it accelerates rapidly. Brakes felt great and stopped straight. The neighbors looked little surprised!! We also sold our house, so tomorrow the coupe goes in storage till we get in our new house. The house we are currently looking at has a 3 1/2 car garage. That won't tear me up!!!

Well, life, family and basics like food, shelter and clothing take precedence over a car project, so best of luck on the move and all. Glad you got a 'round the block on it, though.

That won't be a problem! One car at a time, plus I sold my truck. We found out we only need the little Chevy Equinox, gas mileage is great and that little turbo makes her quick!! Actually it's a fun car to drive! Next comes the coupe, and I plan to drive the crap out of her!!

  8. I seen this one for sale as a roller and instantly thought of this thread, other than the wheels it looks like a great start

My coupe is tucked away in storage for awhile. House sale is moving along, inspection day today. We are heading to Boise to look at homes this Friday. Loaded the coupe on my friend's trailer yesterday! Took him for a ride up the street, turned around, first burnout, smoked the cheater slicks for about 75 feet, pulled second, they hooked up, that little SOB loves second, set us both back in the seat at took off!! What a feeling after many years of work. Seems it was worth it!! Can't wait to get her out on a big road and give her hell! Went straight and stopped without any issues! The both of us agreed we were a little nuts, no belts, no windshield, and it was 18 degrees out. Plus we were holding the doors shut! We loaded her up and got out of the neighborhood! Maybe it's good we are moving!

Well everything went to shit!! House buyers backed out at the last minute! The house selling market went in the toilet! So my friend and I went to Boise and trailered the coupe back to my house! Just beat the snow, backed her up the street, did a nice burn out and put her in the freshly cleaned and reorganized garage. Best part is now I have six months to concentrate solely on the coupe!! Having the house finished is a good thing, loads of time and extra money! Life is good!!!

Sorry about the house - maybe the new buyers heard what your winters are like and got scared lol. Enjoy your time with the coupe - maybe it's a blessing in disguise!

Mortgage rates have dropped an entire point in interest since October 31st. They aren’t done yet. Lower rates will add fuel to the housing market soon.

My wife and I have decided it's a good thing! Our real estate agent told us the main reason they backed out was because of the drainage contour of our property won't be conducive to there idea of building another two car garage where our shed is at this time. Plus their agent told our agent he was not going to work with them any longer! Something about the most wishy washy clients he's had in 15 years.

I noticed a whirring sound when clutch pedal is depressed, throw out bearing? Any cures? More time to break in? Help, it's annoying. Clutch works perfect except for that sound!!!

I normally only point this out to guys that I think might not know the difference, you will know I'm sure, anyhoo, did you marry the clutch fork to the t.o. bearing correctly?

She has a hydraulic throw out bearing! Made the linkage issues a piece of cake! I'm thinking I might have shimmed it a tad to tight!! I am running a diaphragm style pressure plate!

That possibility entered my mind...................right after I hit the post button!
Never hurts to pass little nuggets of information on to those that don't know.

Whirring as soon as the TO bearing contacts the clutch fingers, or only when fully depressed?
Shimming could cause too much throw, but whirring as soon as the bearing is spinning sounds like the bearing.

Yeah I came to the same conclusion. I plan to remove the belhousing dust shield tomorrow and check it out. But I am pretty sure the new bearing is fubar!!!

I think I will put her up on jack stands, warm her up and push the clutch in for awhile, rev it up and see what happens. Good or bad I guess I will be replacing the bearing, or maybe it will heal itself! Yeah, right!!!

Agreed, that's one of the reasons I made the trans very easy to take out or reinstall.

I also thought about the fact I didn't put a stop on the clutch pedal. I might be pushing the throw out bearing to far. I think I will run her on the stands and push the pedal in and out while watching the tires and listening to the sounds. Maybe a stop will be in order. I figured a stop might be what's missing in a lot of the hydraulic bearing failures! Time will tell.

Might be time to research how much throw the bearing provides, how much the clutch requires, and what gap the disc is supposed to have so when you dig in, you have those numbers on hand.

I researched all that before. It's a small diaphragm street clutch. Pressure was under the bearing max. Works great till it's spinning! Looks like a fubar bearing. Took it out and sure as hell, it feels like the bearing has a bad roller. Problem is I bought it 5 years ago, so warranty is out of the question. Gave my wife the part number. Guess what Santa is bringing me?

Looks like it's a sealed bearing! I guess it's a throw away unit. Not sure I'd put it back in anyway!
