This photo was when the roller coaster was the main attraction of the beach community. It was next to the pier location. It was called of all things, "The Joy Zone at Seal Beach." “On the right is the Derby Racer roller coaster which was built adjacent to the first Seal Beach pier, a wooden affair advertised as the longest pier South of San Francisco. The Derby was built for the San Francisco Exposition, then taken apart, shipped to Seal Beach and reassembled.” “It was two blocks long, towered over all buildings and whisked riders around the tracks at high speeds. Seal Beach's bubble burst with the 1929 stock market crash and the onset of the Great Depression. The Joy Zone shriveled, the roller coaster burned down, and many of the buildings fell into disrepair.” Jnaki 1949 13th Street shoreline Seal Beach, CA just North of the Pier. Later on during our 1960-70 surfing era, we frequented the 13th Street surf break during the winters. It took the big West-North swells, made some terrific big peaks for fast takeoffs and great overhead rides! We have known the Seal Beach Pier and shoreline since the late 40s. Our dad used to take us directly to the sandy beach for the day. He loved to fish from the shore break sandy area, while we played in the water and our mom was hidden under her large umbrella. But, had the roller coaster and surrounding area been around back then, it would have rivaled the Pike Amusement Park during the times we were in Long Beach after 1946. YRMV
Kelvinator, another great GM product! Were manufactured here in Adelaide. Testament to them;we have a fridge here still in full use after 35yrs. ! Only a couple of minor repairs in all that time! My retired fridge mechanic said if you can get parts, keep it going, because nothing made now will give you that kind of service.Truer words never spoken.
If you take out the back seat and crank the Nash seat down on the passenger side you might be able to shove that tree in and close the trunk on that Rambler.
