Years ago, the company I was working for, one of the younger kids working there, was really interested in my dad's old cool 65 Checker Marathon. He is a fellow artist as well.
I sold him my dads car, because he had never seen one of these before, and I knew he was going to really do it up right.
He actually did a very cool piece of modern art of that car, and he also did a very cool
"Space Girl" hot rod piece of art as well.
These are by my friend "Jake Pendel", here in Seattle.
    Happy "FAS" to you all.
    Thanks from Dennis.

    Hello,

In our Westside of Long Beach neighborhood, convertibles were not the most attractive form of cruising, despite the characteristic photo of a girl with long hair blowing in the wind while behind the wheel of a convertible. It was more of a hardtop sedan type of neighborhood, from stock factory sedans to low cruising custom cars.

So, to give the old Westside of Long Beach some added pizazz, a custom lowered rake 1960 Mercury Convertible with a scalloped side panel full paint job and custom wire wheels makes a statement. If one like this were to cruise around during the month of December, the red color would be a part of the holiday color patterns. The original finished paint/scalloped paint design had green pinstriping panels surrounding the red areas, but that looked too ordinary for the holiday season. So, a blue offset pinstriping was added, so it was still red, but the blue gave it a solid design to see the actual scallop sections.

My wife would have liked the red Mercury custom convertible and would have driven it back in our 20s era. But, time and history moving on in life would have preferred a look a like sedan with a removable top to make it solid. In those old times, the folks that had removable tops had a suspension crank/pulley system in their garages.

Drive the convertible sedan in, unlock the top and connect the straps to pull up the top and make it rest, sitting over the whole car. So, if one wanted to use the car as a convertible, it was an easy drive away situation. If one wanted an enclosed sedan, just lower the top and lock the top down to the points for security.

But, who could not want a colorful Mercury convertible during the holiday season of “RED.” YRMV

  5. Some more book mark/business card art... a 'novel' idea a friend thought up.
