yeah im in no way shape or form done with the car and its still gonna get regular updates on the thread, Im jus taking a step back take a deep breath and hit it hard again,
I can completely relate. I just grenaded a motor in something a week before a very important deadline that it needed to be running again. I about killed myself for a couple days getting a replacement motor and getting it running. But, it didn’t run right and wasn’t going to with the parts I had to work with. Had to step away for a bit and will hit it hard again soon. Your car is looking great but sometimes we hit setbacks that we can’t get around. I’m sure you will get it all worked out.
Hey Austin, nice work on the car so far. Talk about traditional hot rodding. I feel your pain with the engine. What's your current driveline combo? I know it's an 8BA, but what kind of trans? And flywheel? My gut feeling is that you have an interference somewhere along the line. I know it sucks, but maybe disconnect the engine and trans and see if you can get it to turn over. That'll help isolate the problem. I know you'll push through this!

Thanks man im gonna dig into it and get it sorted, it was an unrealistic timeline in all honesty but I made alot happen and have to be somewhat happy about that, hell last year I didnt have a 34 and this year I do. Not something I can be too sore about.
Oh and its a 52 8RT that I put a 39 trans behind the flywheel was off the same engine that the trans came from as well as the clutch which was like a 59a style flathead, its a 9 inch clutch and a new starter. And a 40 rear end, I pulled the plugs and poured some oil down it and later a mixture of sauce lol and we are still stuck tight It may be something hanging up after all ill keep everyone posted.
What engine did the flywheel come off of? The original truck engine or the 59A? They are different flywheels. A 59AB flywheel won't work on an 8ba/8rt block.
I tend to agree with others that it's an interference thing. When you first told us about it my 8BA did the starter sticking trick the same day. It's got to be something stupid right? That said if you're worried it's something worse only 24 bolts to pull a head and take a looksee. Keep your head up man you'll figure it out.

Are we talking 1/32" interference or like 1/4"...would you be able to tighten the bellhousing to the block? Where would that interference go...just curious
@Stogy a quick google suggest that there’s a whole host of surfaces and shaping that create interference in multiple ways. Suffice to say if Bruce Lancaster said they don’t work I go ahead and agree lol
So if it was all tightened together and there was fouling I suspect coming apart might be a challenge or at a minimum there will be some skid marks where fouling occurred...That looks to be 1/4"...Hopefully nothing is bent...gouging might be passable/blendable. The components such as the trans and engine can hopefully absorb the thrust forward and aft that may have occurred...and maybe the clutch just acted as a big cushion for it all...I eagerly await the teardown...fingers crossed...so much to know...
Well I guess its all a learning curve and Ill put it in the back of my head to tell someone in the future and save someone else a headache, man I shoulda got on the hamb and done some reading first l0l!
Im gonna work on fitting my new quarter this weekend after takin a few weekends to clear my head and catch my breath haha Ill show everyone how I do it and post lots of pics. Maybe ill tear the flathead out next weekend.
Been a min fellas but I'm back haha, work kind of had me backed up on life but I'm gettin in the hotrod saddle again, anyway I made some head way this weekend, got both of Dons quarters welded in an started fitting the left tail piece, got that god awful torch cut, bullet ridden roof insert out and saved the tack strip even! I managed to get across the front where the A pillars lean back welded solid too, along with started shaping the rear window
I don't like the color of it. You been busy my young friend. Other that breaking my trailer all I have managed recently is chasing parts, and cluttering up my inside workspace with them. But my outside work space is clean. Its coming together Austin and that makes this old man smile.

yes sir, I love them makes me think of a kid that found some fancy big car and got the rear tires off of it and put them on his hotrod they are 32 ford 18s on the back with really nice firestones
