My Uncle, a died in the wool Ford man, was the service manager at the local Ford dealer in 47-52 He said the 49 Fords were threw together so fast that parts were falling off of them when they were unloaded off the transport trucks! It has to be true as he would fight if anybody would put down a Ford in his presence!
The GM Aus. car looks like a proto for the 72 HQ Holden Monaro. Strangely with what looks like 186S badging on the front fender.
The grills were too big and gaudy reminds me of the new chevy trucks. They look weighed down and should be on a semi
Hello, Nice find of the original trail of California Missions. When my wife and I were into history of our So Cal region and road worthy 20 somethings, we drove all over the state. One of the long road trips had to be broken into several days due to the bottom of California to the big fold in the center area of California. But, once we got the bottom end of California taken care of, now, we could head North to see other missions, starting with the Mission San Juan Capistrano, just up the road from Doheny State Beach. The odd thing is, once started and checking them out at the opening hour, it is pleasant. But, when it happens to be mid morning or afternoon, the droves of tourists inundate the grounds and make it impossible to get a nice photo of the grounds and specific areas of interest. Luckily, the route follows Highway 101 most of the route from the OC and strays off onto the side streets once in the general areas. In most of the well known cities, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey and San Francisco, are known as resort towns on the coast and have some great places to spend a day or two, including overnights. Jnaki You can only go to certain amounts of visits per day as they all tend to blur into the same era/style. YRMV But if in doubt as to history of California from the very early days, this tour may be right up your alley. Plus, most So Cal elementary schools have “California Missions” as part of the curriculum. Our son had to make a wet paper mache model of a mission and take it for a display in his classroom. A cool diorama of California history.
