  1. My apologies if I’ve rocked your boat,, but I’d be saying the same thing to you over a beer at a barbecue. I’ll leave it there.

Best practice is drag link parallel to the tie rod. The P&J info you posted covers this....

Came across this old TCI catalog ad that I had saved in a folder of reference info. If you look closely, you can see that the drag link and the tie rod are pretty much parallel. Anyone starting a new build might think about working "backwards" when moching up their steering. What I mean by that, is temporarily placing their steering box in a position that puts the drag link and the tie rod parallel ..........and then see if there is a way to make the motor mounts and the exhausts clear the steering shaft with the steering in that position.
Maybe even raising the engine slightly.
I think we all tend to put the engine in first and then work around it, but maybe we should not make engine placement permanent until we judge whether the steering placement will work well with it.

Close but not exactly parallel. So not saying parallel is the only way, but maybe a good thing to shoot for.:)

How's your Lankensperger doing these days? Found a memorial plaque dedicated to the Royal Bavarian Waggoneer, Georg Lankensperger, complete with diagram.

That plaque is cool as hell. No plaque for that slacker Akerman.

Been drawing arcs in my head for a week now. Even been doing it in my sleep. You know, I think you are entirely correct with the 90* thing making the left hand and right hand turning match up.

I still think that the further away you get the drag link from parallel to the tie rod, the more it will affect the steering ratio. My mind says that is the problem that would have occurred if the OP had not changed the setup.

How did I miss this gem? Seems like every time steering geometry comes up in a thread it turns out the same.
I just want to say, make damn sure you use real Canadian maple syrup. There should be no compromises on that. The bunny knows…

  10. Try and buy good quality maple syrup down here! On the odd occasion we can, it makes the Sunday morning pancakes so much better.
