    Driver door finished.
Checked Muncie. Qrt and1/2 STA LUB GL 4.
Ran new speedometer cable. Rubber grommet in fire wall was a pain in the donkey. Factory firewall/mat didn’t want to lay down. But it did eventually. Now after running the cable I have a question it seems to run easy enough ( won’t be a problem to stay off headers and the like ) but the right angle drive out of the Muncie has me puzzled as to what is the best route to hook it up. Go under and use an adel clamp to secure it or run over the top. The angle from the top seems excessive. I normally wouldn’t care as long as it worked and didn’t hang down below frame rails. Opinions ? IMG_1592.jpeg IMG_1593.jpeg IMG_1594.jpeg IMG_1595.jpeg IMG_1596.jpeg IMG_1597.jpeg IMG_1598.jpeg

As it turns out Muncie came with both pass/and driver side speedo drives depending on application. So I’ll use what ever gives the cleanest approach and can be tucked in close.

On another note my retro sound radio showed up. Man the actual unit is tiny but that means light weight /smaller which means less stress on dash and mounting. It comes with every thing. Need to do do a little research and see what speakers /small boxes in need. Will more than likey mount in rear seat area in a box of some type. Maybe two under the dash. Will see IMG_1604.jpeg IMG_1605.jpeg

It just seemed that this one was the one to get .Very little negative and most seemed to be happy with them. and honestly at 214$ hard to beat.

The best part of the passenger side exit speedo hookup is you don't have a shifter and rods to compete with (space wise).
I'm not positive but I think there were more than one style of these tailhousings, my 67 Nova requires one with the shifter mounting bosses moved forward which necessitated the passenger side speedo port.
As you can tell these require the shortest shifter rods GM ever used, the reverse rod is a sure identifier.

I have a Retro Sound Radio in my o/t c10. Fits the dash perfectly and looks totally stock, factory original. The sound is great and the Bluetooth feature is a bonus. I think you will be pleased.

Good to know. Seems to be the case with most of the installations.
Wes also found a second Muncie 4 speed in his original shop behind his dad’s house. As he said. Man I forgot that was in there lol IMG_1609.jpeg IMG_1610.jpeg

I haven’t looked up numbers yet but the studs and nuts along with the course spline count Probobly indicates a M20. Didn’t have time to look at the groove counts

Both the M20 and M21 had the stud/nut arrangement from 63 to 68, then went to the 3/8 bolt after that, also, the groove count on the input shaft can't be considered accurate because of the possibility of replacements over the years, it has been discussed that the GM service units had no grooves.

The Muncie in my Nova is the later one like yours, before I bought the Hurst shifter I planned on using the original OEM early shifter which uses the stud/nut lever attachment so I sourced an early side cover and hard parts.

Ok. Got base knob distance set. And I still can’t get over how small the unit is. IMG_1618.jpeg IMG_1619.jpeg IMG_1620.jpeg IMG_1621.jpeg

I just put a DIN stereo in an off topic car, it's 7" x 2" and about one inch deep.

Damn. 25 years ago that would have been the detachable faceplate for one of those. Crazy.

Got AUX/ and blue tooth also . Figure Ill secure the aux plug in the used to be glove box . The open glove box door could serve as a table to put the phone on I guess. Haven't gotten that far yet. Purchased a pair of 4 inch for the front and a pair of 6X9s for the back. Will be interesting to see how I mount them. Haven't gotten that far yet but it will be clean. Don't like rattles.

14 and yes I said 14 trial fits later and the radio unit looks like it came in the car from the show room. When these instructions tell you that it has almost infinite adjustments they aren’t kidding. Now to make a decision about speakers as in mounting. I have the mounting plates for the 6X9s and I did blank or leave the rear seat out. Would be the easiest and cleanest to put them there. The front 4 inch speakers look as if the will fit in the factory dash openings if bolted together. We will see. IMG_1630.jpeg IMG_1629.jpeg IMG_1631.jpeg IMG_1632.jpeg IMG_1633.jpeg

And yes the protective plastic film is still on the face. it looks kinda dull there but it will be slick once everything is finished.

No pics today. Wes and I made what I would call the short wiring harness that attaches to all the needed constant power ( yellow) and the key acc ( red ) and the ground.
The electric antenna /and the amplifier power wire will be heat shrinked and secured.

Two 4 inch speakers in the factory dash speaker hole. I’ll center up perfect but they will actually bolt in /or use bolts and cage nuts. Bolted the speakers to one another and have an aluminum brace to the front. I’ll wire up as separate right and left just because the unit allows that. Will finish Thursday. Will be clean enough and hidden to boot. IMG_1643.jpeg

Ok dash and front speakers finally buttoned up. Ran rear speaker wires under the kick panels and will run them down and under the door seal plate. ( got to get a wider set since I am not running carpet).
Had to use 1/4 inch spacers to get the speakers below the factor dash speaker grill. Got to figure what /how I am mounting rear speakers. With the rear seat delete gotta be careful. IMG_1650.jpeg IMG_1651.jpeg IMG_1652.jpeg

    Looks good.

I don't remember for sure, but I think the sill plates in my car are from a '65 Riviera. I had some used ones that were the right length and deeper than the stock ones, which was good for me because my used carpet set had been cut short at the doors and the factory sills wouldn't cover the edge.

IMG_1658.jpeg IMG_1657.jpeg IMG_1656.jpeg IMG_1652.jpeg Ok stereo is as good as was represented. I gotta figure out a way to make the speaker boxes blend a little better but for now I velcroed them in place. There is a possible cage later and I don’t want to have to move them or redo.

You wouldn't want to drill a series of holes into that bulkhead panel and set the speakers behind it? If you're going to toss tools and luggage or groceries or whatever in the back seat area, I feel like the speakers might get in the way, or at least get muffled.

Just a thought, still loving all the updates on this project.

Don't know. You may very well be right. I'll have to see how it functions.

  27. I have a retro sound Long Beach in my off topic C10. I've had it in there for about 3 years. I like it. I was using two small speakers in the factory dash location, and two 6" round in the doors. It sounded just ok. I don't like speakers in the doors, but they were there when I got the truck. I just added two 12's and an amp to the setup. I bought a Kicker box setup and put it behind the seat, and it's a whole new animal! It sounds really good. If I had to say anything negative about the stereo it would be the ease of use to get to all the features, but that's probably more my fault than the stereos. On a positive note the bluetooth and the hands free phone feature works really well. Love the car.

I have it about figured out. I just started playing with it. The operator instructions are kinda like Pirate Code. They are more like guide lines. lol

no photo- split the day between Prefect hinges and the 57 trunk lip. Reconstructed the lower corner near the lower valence. Covered the metal work with body /panel skin adhesive. It will be there long after we are all gone. Grey flat and you cant even see it. lol
