Driving my old gasser that has been converted for street use. I can't say that there is one thing I can point to. It has not been on the track since around 1974. Still has the Econoline axle. At the local cruise night there were several gassers, and some were pretty radical, but none were ever raced, and all were done in the past few years. I'm not knocking them, but it is nice to still to have and drive my car after all these years.

Having a real deal original race car or hot rod when your surrounded by freshly built "tributes" is always cool.

The fact that I built it all myself and won’t be parking beside 20 duplicates anywhere I go…

The frame horn inserts. Such a dumb little detail but when I did it I put a pic up about it and my buddy Joe texted me all excited. He loved it. We’ve since lost him so they kinda remind me of him. Cheers buddy

  11. Well for my 33 the best part has always been the color, I have loved the teal my grandfather picked for it and that has never changed, then the 2nd thing is that I have pretty much grown up in the cab of it going to shows and then this was the first classic car I got to drive once I got my permit at 15.
    33 2.jpg

Then with Taboo, the thing that sucked me into this car as a kid was the 54 grille with all the extra teeth. This one mod is something I carry over to alot of other custom ideas I have had for other cars over the years.

  12. The one an only time I've seen your coupe was somewhere around the late eighties, early nineties. At a show, there at Fairmount park. Never forgot it.

  13. Another part of my drag coupe I cherish is the 1959 Pontiac 9.3 rear. I renovated it a few years back with the top of the line everything from FabCraft Metal Works, thanks goes out to Dave, great guy to deal with. Cheap? NO! But almost Bullitt proof. That’s cool, that would have been the Desert Tin rod run back in the day.

I had a guy at that show that wanted to trade me straight across for a black with palomino interior 308 Ferrari. He even let me drive it.
I was in my early twenties and was really tempted to do the trade and I remember my dad (always the voice of reason) saying something like you can’t afford a u-joint in the Ferrari let alone qualify for the insurance. I passed on the trade and this year 2023, have owned the car for 40 years, no regrets.

I love it. Many times the cars that grab my interest the most are loud, rough around the edges, and look unfinished. Much like a “high school hot rod” from the 1950’s might have been.

There are many things, but, my favorite is driving my roadster on a warm summer night with no moon, enjoying the sound of the pipes and enjoying a sky full of stars.

The dash in my 49 Buick. The steering wheel will be replaced before spring. IMG_2007.jpeg IMG_2006.jpeg

  23. For my 29 A cabriolet, it is what I see when in the driver’s seat: cut down 38 Stude steering wheel, 28 Chrysler instrument panel, 37 Olds/Harrison heater box wood graining, and custom made rear view mirrors. Oh, …and the eyeball horn button.

  24. For my 51 ford coupe, it is the 52-54 Mercury hood scoop fitted into the original shaved hood. It took several years to find a solution to air cleaners sticking up through a hole cut to let the original hood close.
