You get the choice of one final car, the last one you will ever own. You can pick any car to do the way you want it done and everything you want done to it. You can’t pick a famous car, just one that is stock for you to customize to your liking. What would you pick? Hot Rod? Kustom, Mild Kustom? Chopped? Channeled, Nosed? Decked? Sectioned? Dropped? Frenched headlights? Canted headlights? Hubcaps mags, steelies, stock? Something along these lines. I think I would choose a 49-50 Merc or shoebox chopped(or convertible), frenched, nosed, decked, wide whites, sombreros, a period Kustom with seaweed flames. I like the tail lights of the 49-50s better than the tail lights of the 51 models
Wanted a merc since my late teens. Finally building a 51. Prefer the 51 rear. So with that itch finally getting scratched I guess I’m torn between a 35/36 Ford 3 window tail dragger or an authentic beat up pulp wood truck as my final ride.
I pick an O/T 2052 Ford F-150, gas powered. If that's my last ride, that'll mean I made it to 100 years old. If I'm 100. I may not do much in the way of mods, but I promise to put fuzzy dice on the mirror.
That plan may not be all it's cracked up to be. Depends how you are at 100... Studies show that if you eat wholemeal bread instead of white bread you will live an extra 6 to 12 months. Trouble is, the extra time is tacked onto the end, and might very well be spent staring out a nursing home window while dribbling in your own lap. Suddenly white bread doesn't seem so bad........
If I ever finish the 48 I'd be perfectly happy driving it until my daughter takes the keys away. After driving the 77 F 250 for the last two weeks I may have to rethink the 3 pedal thing and have a Turbo 350 or 400 I have rebuilt and run The 66 Cad Seville rear with 2 something gears that I have.
Hard to pin it to only 1 . If I had to pick one it would be an all black 55 Chevy 210 or 150 done in a “COPO” style . All original-ish with a 454 or 427 under the hood and a 4 speed . Like something that would have been ordered right from Chevrolet if it was available. Or a black 65 Riv. Black on black lowered a bit would suit me nicely Or the car that got me into hot rods a 41 Willy’s gasser . But it would need that elusive AMC 427 hemi like in the movie first choice would be the 55 !! Hands down . Actually hold on hold hold …….. Ms. Elegance if @Moriarity woukd ever let her go , she’s dreamy If you haven’t noticed I got automotive ADD.
Yeah, the time to finish both of my avatar cars. But I assume my final ride, as most others, will be in a hearse.
I bought mine earlier this year. My 40 Merc coupe will be built just the way I want it (traditional and period correct custom) and may be the last big build I do. But, I also can't see the future, so won't bet on anything.
I am all most 89 years old and have a 50 ford 2 door like the first car that i had and it is going to be my last build. Don
My Dad had a '51 Ford woodie that he talked about almost until the day he died at 100+ I always thought about finding a '51 woodie to transport his coffin to the VA cemetery. But in the end he wanted his body donated to medical research. So his final ride was his ashes delivered to me by the USPS.
1955 Chevrolet Two-Ten DelRay two door sedan (of course). It would mimick the 56 local to this impressionable high school kid that was considered the car "not to call out" for a street brawl in 1970. By a lot of standards, visually, a pretty mundane looking car, sure, it was clean, just not real flashy, original green and white paint and stock ride height, the only external additon was the as-castAmerican five spoke wheels. I can't say for sure but in my minds eye it had Traction Masters too. And probably most importantly to anyone that remembers this era, it would have to have the 327/365 horse engine and a four speed like that one. And not just the car either, it would also need to have the reputation! Can I pick two!
I would want my old 59' Corvette back. Only this time I would paint it yellow with a white interior with gray torque thrust mags and a 409/4 speed. Sightly customized along the lines of what Moriarity did with his 61.
We all love hot rods, fast vintage sports cars, those sexy two-seat specials from the 50's.....Problem is, when you get to the age of "last car", actually driving one of those is going to be physically a lot harder. I see it every week when some of our octogenarian clients struggle to get in and out of their old Brit sports cars. Given that, I think my last car will have to be something more practical. A Riviera comes to mind, maybe an older Cad coupe, a 40's Ford.....anything that I can get in and out of easily, power brakes, power steering, AC. Might even have to add a backup camera since my neck surgery limits how far I can rotate anymore, and that only gets worse as I age. Some of it isn't Hamb-friendly, but it makes it easier as you get older.
In my case it would be my father’s 1959 Dodge ( yes @VANDENPLAS , I like Dodges) with Ms. Linda in the passenger seat.
just have a junker laying around that you can be put in and send off to the crusher to save cost of a funeral. that way you will be recycled into something else and still useful after gone.
For my last, I would want it to be my first, a 36 Cabriolet that was given to me at 14 by a guy that traded at my Dad’s gas station. Had a flathead, no top but had the irons. I got my first tickets in that car driving it home. No license plates and no drivers license. I kept it about a year and traded it for a Model A coupe. What a dumbass I was at 15. Might still be, depends on who you talk to. I could finish that car now in a fine taildragger style, and go out in style.
