Of the various interest groups of street rodding in the 60's, I've often felt the T- bucket crowd gravitated towards the more serious side of hot rodding culture of the day, big engines, blowers, big/little wheels/slicks, spindle mount wheels, etc.
Kind of a "if a little is good, too much is just right" mindset.

For a while, the /Comp Roadsters were a go between classification, with many famous AA/FD drivers and Funny Car drivers graduating from the Comp Roadster class before it was disbanded.

After building/buying a SOHC, all he can afford is cheap gas;).

Probably closer to Altered or AA/FA look-alike wannabes...
Big mill pushed back, rear pushed forward, big rear tires(10x16 slicks were TF tires in the 60's, iirc. etc). Lots drag influence.

  10. That's just a Rocker arm system and with the coil overs he has shocks without mounting shocks separately. I like it for the street.

  11. If you look closely, you can see the support arm is shorter than the pitman arm. Yes, it's some support but more importantly is speeds up the turn ratio a bit and helps keep you in one lane when turning corners. On a race only Dragster you don't want that going on.

I'd be more concerned with the no front brakes on the street.

Besides the fact that the Zoomies are aimed in the worst possible direction (their heads), the lack of a cooling system tells me he doesn't need any gas...it DON'T run.

I didn't see any evidence of a radiator either.

  19. I think you guys are maybe jumping to conclusions. I clearly see 2 hosses, one top and one off the pump. They are not connected directly together. That would tell me they are headed somewhere to pass water through something. It may not be much bigger than the Fuel Tank but I bet it helps out a lot. And, there is a belt spinning the water pump pully. I still like it.

Car Craft March 1968 has the article on that car, I remember reading and believe the coolant is ran through the chassis.
There was a discussion here on the HAMB quite a few years ago about drag racing t-buckets, I think it was around the time I got mine on the road so probably 2007 or 2008 maybe.

Twin supine-mounted radiators under the cab.
At least that is what it says here:

    Hello,

When this photo appeared, everyone was amazed. It took some talent to create something so different than the T-bucket roadsters we saw on TV or at the car shows. We knew the licensing limitations for roadsters without fenders was 1500 pounds. So, more than likely, it was legal in those terms. But, for the other build techniques, simply amazing at the skill and thought in design. But, crash protection and braking since the front brakes do most of the stopping power?

There is plenty of information on the build as noted in magazines from a long time ago.
upload_2024-1-1_16-4-48.png Despite the fact that it is/was advertised as street legal, the term is questionable. Yes, he had motorcycle inserts in the individual headers. But, for safety issues, how can a roadster without any headlights be actually legal? And, no front brakes? Yowzer! Also, talk about not being able to get into any drive-in restaurant parking lot driveway with the extremely lowered suspension, lower than most side view “Lakes pipes?” What about going to the drive-in bumps with the speaker handy? ha!

    Jnaki

As noted, it was a cool design and drew a lot of attention. But, street legal is a term used very lightly in this case. Perhaps he owned a very long double car garage and took up both deep length spaces.

I know a guy with a roadster that’s got no front brakes, is lower than that thing, has headers pointed damn near where a rear view mirror might live and once in a while it has no headlights.

put over 10,000 miles on it since March from Minneapolis to Austin and all point in between.

streetable is all in what your willing to put up with.

most of the rolling bones guys keep the head lights and stands in the trunk til it’s dark out. No argument that they drive those.

Re headlights: For my avatar champ car, which I plan to license, I sunk 1/2" drive sockets upside down into the frame, welded flush with the top. My headlight stanchions will be 1/2" socket extensions, dolled up to snap into the frame sockets and quickly and easily removble. headlite 37.JPG headlite 39.JPG
