Hot Rods Let's finish the 50 Chevy pickup

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Dec 29, 2023.

  1. ...how about 3/4 inch treated plywood with metal strips...
... you could use two peices with the split in the middle to go all the way bed side to bedside.
    ...just an idea.

I used 3/4 plywood and screwed metal strips to it for the look.
    Sealed it with poly.

I stole the steel bed floor out of a newer truck. A little cheap paint, or spray in bed liner, or a bed cover and all is good.

  4. You might consider osage orange (hedge wood), which is as tough as you and will never rot. If you check around the countryside you should be able to find a sawmill that can cut some planks to your specs.
As for naming the truck, how about schadenfreude? The definition: Pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune.

I may have some in my shop - I'll look this weekend.
    5 Lug - right ?
    4-3/4" or 5" bolt circle ?
    You have discs ?
Old - old style won't fit discs.
If discs, you need 80's and newer.
Does it matter if 7" or 8" width ?

I may even have some old chrome ones sitting in my basement for the last 25 years.
I forgot about those. I'll check.

Yeah it's disc, 6" thru 8" wide will work. Either bolt circle will work man. I appreciate ya looking. It's no priority, lot of other stuff to do to the truck, just looking ahead.

How about plastic deck boards for your bed. Durable as hell and they don't rust. IMG_20230729_115027.jpg

There's another thing they don't do............ They don't look like wood.
Not saying they are a bad idea, but if it's the wood look you're after, keep lookin'....

o_ODoesn't matter what you use for a bed floor. Put enough oily, greasy, rusty crap in it:eek:, and nobody will notice

  15. Those are cool trucks. As far as a name: One of the guys in my little home town in Oregon had a dark blue 50 Merc 2 door and he used white olde English lettering to say "The Naked Crotch". right behind the front wheels. The name is available now because the police made him sand it off and there are now black primer spots on the fenders. Jus sayin.

IMG_20231221_165431.jpg I also chose treated plywood for my bed.
I just put a darker stain on it then applied penofin clear oil for wooden decks etc...
Not going to hurt my feelings if I'm hauling a motor and it drips oil on it, or if it gets a gouge in it I can easily apply more stain & oil to hide it.
I bent up a end cap for it to hide the end grain of plywood.

Instead of deleting all those pictures of our rides with off topic wheels, maybe the Mods can just put Lloyd covers on them? :D:D[/QUOTE]
Or they could just quit being so fukking childish about what is seen.

I guess I need to add the broke part. What I'm saying is it rolls and moves on the current wheels, no I'm not a fan of them. Not what I would've put on it, but I didn't buy them for myself. Getting my business back in order is the current priority.

Hey Lloyd, the butt gasket thing. I’ve worn a few over my head via some of my joker friends.

  28. Of course! The weights have to be numbers matching with the wheels.
