Projects 1932 3w Second Chance

Hello All,

I am lucky to say the least to own one of hot rodding's best. A real 1932 3w coupe, or what's left of one. haha

So here it is...





so there are holes on the roof, welded doors, and a decklid area thats been removed. the holes on the roof are very distinguishable. havent found any pictures of the car yet but if anyone has seen this car please drop some info.

 

383duece on here started out with about the same kind of body you have and with the help of Andy's Restoration, his own determination he ended up with the super nice dark blue Rolling Bones style 3 window he's driven all over the USA.

 

At least it's already chopped. That will save some time. Please start a build thread so we can all tune in and watch you bring this car back to life.

Reminds me of this car

If anyone has any pics from back in the day of 3 windows with a similar chop in yellow or blue post up pics! Most likely east coast car but ya never know

 

I think I would have the body chemically derusted and stay away from any sandblast services...........just had a pretty solid 56 Chevy truck body sandblasted and discovered lots of new pinholes.............

 

When I blasted my body , I used ultra fine glass beads as to not destroy my body. It took ne 2 days to do the body inside snd out , doors inside and out and trunk lid inside and out.
It came out fantastic and no damage to the compromised areas.

Seeing a body like this reminds me how much I wish at times that cars could talk...this one has stories to tell!

here are some pictures of the B pillar that was used in this car. it seems to be a 28-29 Closed car A post. with Model A engine mounts used as feet. pretty neat but i wont be using them. just cool clues on the history of this car.




also heres a better picture of the roof where the cage cut outs are.



its nice that this car still has the header and dash structure in it.

Travis, back in the 1950's-1960's there was a similar blue chopped and channeled 1932 Ford 3 window from Newington, Connecticut. It was referred to as the Gilligan coupe. Later it was owned by Mike Gentic from Windsor, Connecticut. I don't know if this is that coupe, but it is similar, and something that you may be able to check out. Contact George Gonsalves from Wethersfield, Connecticut. He is a member of the C.A.R.B.S. His phone number is, 860-982-4713. Good luck in your endeavor. Where did you acquire the coupe ?

 

My 32 was in similar shape when we started on it a few years ago. I had little or no jambs so I bought the tins from Brookville and welded 1/8th flat steel to the back of them and then reinforced them where needed. We had to cut the body apart and fit it to the doors on front, back, top and bottom. My car was in Andover Kansas in 2017 but I have no history before that. I wish I had pictures of it right after it was sandblasted. It can be done with enough time and patience.

 

If the 'Taco" coupe can be rebuilt anything can, see the Hamb coverage..

 

Congrats! I have followed your UTube channel since I saw you and the 37 panel. Nice work... no doubt you have your hands full with this, challenging, but a learning process too. Eager to see its progress.

Thanks everyone for the interest in the build! The Gilligan Coupe does look similar but the furthest ive tracked the car is to Tennessee. Ricky from Ricky Bobbys Rod Shop owned this car for a bit and got it from a friend of his who owned it for many years. i plan to get his friends number to chat with him as to how long he had it for and where he got it. i dont think it was a new england car but who knows!

 

been collecting parts at the moment but i think i have enough to get started on something.









this is the first piece i started fixing. picture above is after, picture below is before.



i want to save this piece as a buck/template for dies and such for making my own roof corners.
my wife Kelly and I are working nights on the car so progress should be steady.

A little TLC and a Rolling Bones chassis, and you’ll be on the road in no time!

 

The circle hole on the passenger side, looks like maybe a gas filler. This could be a clue as to what car it used to be. Anyway, I cant wait to see what car it is to become.
