    Dennis,
I remember looking at one of Randy's cars real hard in the early 70s but I can't for the life of me remember how the steering was set up. It did have the almost vertical column and he drove it like a school bus. (A bit faster though:D)

Those front slick tires are awesome. I'd love to have a set.

Those look like tractor front tires with the center rib ground off

Have you ever seen a Schroeder with the column coming out low? A little better steering wheel angle. I ordered them that way when Schroeder was still in business. Same lower column 2024-01-10 12.32.23-1.jpg 2024-01-10 12.32.23-2.jpg 2024-01-10 12.32.23-3.jpg with a right side steer Mopar box. PS; Note the brake pedal in the 1st picture. More K I S. Pedal pivots on the steering extension tube.

I thought about buying some ribbed Front tractor tires for my 29 altered a couple years ago and shaving the center ribbed down as there only 40 bucks each.

Any more pictures of this one, besides the two posted? I haven't seen this one before, and I really like what I'm seeing.

I wonder if they were motorcycle slicks from the 60s. They'd have been available in 16 in rim diameter, and not extremely wide.

I'm thinking if the tractor front tires even had a speed rating you're fortunate you only thought about shaving off the center rib and running them at "non-tractor" speeds.

good point. bike slick options in that style were certainly more plentiful than now.

You know, looking closely at the picture of the tires, they may just have been narrow tires run on a tire truer to shave off the tread. You can sort of see some remaining tread pattern

  19. That last picture: Pulling the car out of the garage to start the engine for the first time, all your rodding buddies present to help out, neighborhood kids hanging around watching the goings-on and catching the hot rodding bug. Way cool...wish that would have happened in my neighborhood.

it's a curious thing. i know a later version of ivo's t had regular cheaters on the front after barris got his hands on it. but this car seems like a lot less show and more go so i wonder what's going on here.

1st pic, topping up the radiator, fixing the headers to the car
2nd pic, first start, turning the key while working the throttle
3rd pic, Before or after first start. Maybe it didn't fire, and they are diagnosing. Appear to be looking at the crank pulley. Maybe the camera stopped the fan and they are checking timing.

I ended up getting the car running. But I never planned on putting it down a track or at any speed. It was just to look at. I ended up finding a used set of tires for the front.

Mickey Thompson wrote about this in his autobiography (1964-ish). He ran the farm implement tires on his race car at Bonneville and the lakes, but said he later found out they were rated for 25 MPH (IIRC).

The other factoid that stuck with me was his happiness at obtaining a cylinder boring machine - he raided the dumpsters behind FORD dealerships to salvage the useable parts to use in his flathead race car engines - and with the boring bar he could bore each cylinder for a specific salvaged piston...

    Right on!
I'd stop eating my pizza and walk across the street to check that out, not much gets in the way of my pizza either.
