And hopefully all the way home............

There is a big difference in being truly "streetable" and being "Street Legal". I think you meet both definitions.:)

Sam, I have no doubt your rig will be fast, but I think Xs little car ran in the sevens at the HAMB Drags...

  8. I’ve followed that car for a while now… but he said he’d spot three car lengths… and he’d be pulling his trailer… so I think it would be close!

How fast does a street car need to be in order to be a "brawler" ? What do you think the minimum should be?

Depends how far back you go...and who you're trying to keep up with....also how serious you are about using old stuff to make it go fast.

But in general, if you think you're gonna get busted if you race the guy next to you at the stoplight, you might have a street brawler.

  14. The politically correct answer would be "Anything that feels fast to you... you know, 11, 12 second cars..."
But with 700+ horsepower cars from the factory roaming the streets, and modified versions putting out 1000hp... while they can't put that power down on the street, the fact remains, they've upped the bar.
So, for old school hot rod stuff... I'd say 10's.
Here's a post from 10 years ago that asked your same question.

And if you read down the post... you'll see where I took an excerpt from something I wrote on the HAMB 10 years before THAT! Man... that's 20 years ago! I love hot rodding!!

To me it depends if it has a power adder or not. I suppose that’s why drag week has them separated.

But then I realize there are no handicaps in street racing.

  16. If you have a car that can lay to waste most of the guys in your area and you have done so, you have a brawler. As far as how fast? Well , fast enough to spank most of your competition. However, ANYTHING can happen in a drag race.;)

    """Street Brawler""
    Not a Track Ride ,,,,
Street Brawler is street driven & can lay down a fast # with MPH , & Many here do not approve of S-Ring ,
    Now days , your ride ( S B) needs to be , 6:20 ish & quicker in 1/8
    10 :50 & quicker in 1/4
    @ least around here,
There are many Roads , parking lots ,
Drive way interest's , Not patrolled / fall under County / state speed laws

I can buy a 9 second or quicker brawler from my local Stellantis dealer. So if you’re happy with a 10 second slug or a 11 second slug (like mine) then that’s okay….at the least it will be sort of traditional.

  25. I think a Hemi in anything automatically classifies it as a Street Brawler… especially a Model A coupe! The Mopar grille is a nice addition!
Next question… how quick is it? 10’s?

I think the Chrysler Hemi is the best looking motor in the open engine bay of any 20-early 30s hot rod.......but I have to disagree that in todays world they are automatically " brawlers". The mystique of a properly built hemi.......especially a supercharged one lives on........but in reality, most of todays examples are more about the look than actual performance. Very few are 392s and many have fewer cu in than most smallblock Chevys. A brawler has to back up its looks with performance.............IMHO.

  27. I agree. When you lump in the early Hemis... that's absolutely true. I guess I was thinking of the 426 version... and even then, I'm sure there are some snoozers.

Back in the late 60s early 70s the goal was to take a home built hot rod and beat out some kid with his factory muscle car. The best place for me was Hampton Beach NH. There along the street in front of the beach breaker wall, you would line up against the car you were running against, while two or three cars would continue to drive while you and the other guy would stand fast waiting for at least 1/8 of a mile of beach street to be clear, the light would change and off we would go. The police were not an issue because most of the time they would be back of you in traffic and those ahead would too far ahead to see anything. Of couse all good things must end when the police started riding houses along the beach front instead of riding around the police cars.

  29. yes my car is off the street temporarily. i want to try out the outer limits of nitro racing. nothing from the street car side has been sold or cut off the car. i could easily convert it back into a street brawler in no time. the problem with this car is its hard to find a race with this car on the street. i have more luck with motorcycles. i can flip from gas to nitro before the light turns green. just for the record the car has gone in the 6s at 198mph. i dought it will do that om the street. on gas no nitro last year i ran it at us 41. left at a idle without the trans brake. ran in the 5s 1/8 mile.
