It was Lew Arrington's car but driver could have been him or "Jungle Jim" Liberman, who also drove it some in 1966 and in 1967.

Pee Wee Wallace from Richmond, Va. This car first ran as a stock wheel base carburetor-ed HEMI on gas, but he converted it to a injected altered wheel base car you see here, most likely still on gas when this picture was taken since he doesn’t appear to have fire suit on in this picture. However, he quickly transitioned it to a nitromethane fuel burning car.

He continued on through the late '60's and ‘70’s running many of his own funny cars under the “The Virginian” name. He also drove Billy Holt’s “Alabamian” named funny car and Jim Beattie’s “Black Stang” named funny car during that period. Great owner/driver and friend, RIP my friend.

Looks like Eric Rickman shooting at Lions. One of Mickey Thompson's 4cyl Tempest powered rails?
    Strange roll cage.

You are correct. One of his normal positions to get a good angle for the shot. :)

Early Dragmaster chassis, with additional front hoop. Usual Mickey option, perhaps for Bonneville?

Yes, the car is Mickey’s Attempt 1, he ran it at the drags sans body but primarily he built it for Bonneville land speed and FIA records.

  17. May 4, 1969 I’m driving Jack Doyle’s Slider top gas car with Bob Schneider’s fuel engine in it. I was home on leave from the Army. And I was supposed to be at Ft Lewis Washington that day to leave for Vietnam. I was at New England Dragway and I was AWOL. Showed up at Lewis three days late. IMG_1824.jpeg

May have needed the ladder to keep his balls from dragging the ground. He had to have had a pair to take shots like that.

For those that are vertically challenged, but also to highlight such a cool photo in a clearer form.

    Hey T,

I modified your post to clarify which one is your dad. It was too fuzzy of a photo among all of the others. If there was one impressive drag racer during our early drag racing history, it was your dad and all of the different race cars he drove.

We usually saw the yellow Chet Herbert collaboration FED racing at Lions and other So Cal dragstrips.

It was a pleasure watching your dad race and be one of the top racers of the time period.

Then, there is this one with added original sound:
