Today at Buccees

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by daylatedollarshort, Jan 18, 2024.

  1. On vacation in Florida, stopped at a truck stop that doesn’t allow trucks and saw this car on display. Granted the stance was established by casters, had to do some research, but think this is a 1939 Chevrolet, which made me wonder why more of these aren’t hot rods or customs. The size was on the smaller side and it was a pretty nice looking coupe. Anyone shed some light on this? I think that they had given up on the wood framing by then. Thanks for the input. Never been to one, but pics I’ve seen of those Buccees they are huge! I’ve been in many truck stops that you could have put in the Buccees building! Really strange to me to build a gas station with 100 gas pumps.

Oh yeah, 39 Chevys make great hot rods and gassers!

  4. All the Buccees around here have AD pickups in the store on display in the same manner as that 39.

The 39 Chevy was the best looking Chevy for a long span of time...you have good taste

  6. ..Old Navy stores had those for years. I think most were military surplus.

  7. .Absolutely! Lots of '39 Chevy's were built as Gassers and M/P back in the day. You don't see that many as Customs, but lots of them in the Low Rider genre.

They were just painted that way.

Also, they were just shells with no engines

I recall they went cheap when they redid the decor and got rid of them.

  10. Yup it was just a rough shell, but it was a great size with a nice grille and nose, fender mounted headlights, flat glass, lots of things that make for a good project in my books. I live in the rust belt near Detroit, maybe they were prone to rust out. I appreciate the compliment squirrel. The other buc-ee’s we were at had a 50 Ford half ton in it. The girls really like this place, doesn’t do much for me, but I do check out the old car displays.

The ones in GA are the same. Old pickups painted red, just like the car.

  12. squirrel, I like all the Chevy's from 37 to 48. My Dad had a 40 Coupe, so I'm kinda parcel to the 40's

I recall AD Chevy pickups at the two Old Navy stores I was in. Don’t remember seeing a car though?

  14. My lovely Wife's 1ST Buc-ees experience was on the way back from our honeymoon. This one is in Richmond, Ky.

Being a transporter, I think I have been to every Buc-ees in the country at least once. Gotta love 'em! Yes, most have red trucks, but some (like the O.P. showed) have something other than the red truck.

    God bless

  18. My BIL in Covington Ga. bought one of the Old Navy AD's. 3600 ,no eng /trans /interior but otherwise complete ,including steering , wheels /tires. The kicker, it was built in Atlanta ! Most of those display trucks were pieced together and were just shells.

  24. Had some nuggets today, they are good, taste like pancakes, not as good as krispie kreeme, but not as messy either.

    No Bucee's in CT either.

  26. TN has two, both on I-40 at Crossville exit 320 and Pigeon Forge exit 407.

What a marketing score! Find the exit to the most visited National Park and adjoining attractions, partner with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians for the ideal piece of property, and build (for now) the largest Buc-ees in the country with 120 pumps and a 74,000 sq ft store!
Just be prepared for craziness and mouth breathing, gob smacked travelers during peak hours.

We were supposed to get our first one in wi. this year but i don't think it even started yet now. Big fight over cost-sharing of the highway rebuild for it. it was all set originally but supposedly someone came in with disputes and want them to share more cost. rumors has it was kwiktrip that had the beef over what was originally discussed/planned. usually when a new company comes to the area/state they get pretty easy treatment to make it happen so they can earn tax dollars on them in the future.
