...or better said, allowed to see the light of day - once again.

    https://www.theautopian.com/the-hol...s-been-found-after-being-hidden-for-50-years/

    From the article:

"The re-emergence of this car from the unknown is truly remarkable. It will first be shown in its as-found at the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, Feb. 2-4, and at the Detroit Autorama in March, and then lead restoration specialist Dave Shuten will restore the car to the exact look, configuration, and design of its 1965 debut."

Finally! I was a Facebook friend of Steve's as well, and follow Dave Shuten on Instagram. I'm gonna be "that guy" and say since a faithful replica had been made, I'd prefer the later lime version, with the Early Times vibe...as a preference for it's return!

Looks like it survived pretty well, I agree with the 1965 version (early) restoration. It is always best to go with the most famous version. The model kit was the first version, most of the magazine coverage was the first version etc. I for one am not too interested in seeing it as found. these kinds of cars do not wear patina (man I hate that word) very well....

To be fair, I know a few people that knew where the car was... I don't think that was huge breaking news. If I understand correctly, the complication and the accomplishment was all in the extraction.

Regardless, super cool that's it's out and about again. Deserves to be seen.

Where I differ is that I would love to see the level of fabrication and the details that will be lost when it's restored/over-restored. It's fascinating to me to see the actual work done, the welds, cuts, angles, etc.

I don't care about patina, either. Though I do like the before and after. I just know we cannot help ourselves when restorations take place and work/fabrication is made better.

All that previously hidden stuff is really cool to me. These days if it's not a stack of dimes, people get judgy, they need to see the fabrication of the icons.

  22. Really cool. I would like to see it before it gets glammed up, just for kicks.

Wonder if there are any left out there hiding? Since the Kookie car and The Golden Sahara were found, wonder what's left?

A previous owner mentioned he cut it into pieces after the chrome plated frame cracked due to hydrogen embrittlement(?), and the weight of two FEs resting on it over the years. I'm pretty sure that was mentioned in the Ed Roth book.

This was my comment in one of the other threads...

"Wouldn't that be the best thing........
How you build it up in your many identical posts smacks a bit of a publicity stunt, or worse, some sort of scam.
I hope I am proven wrong............... but I doubt it."o_O

..... and like I said, I hoped I was proven wrong. Waiting for more news though.
