    Hey, Ricky;
I forgot to mention in the ?-wheel thread, the proper paint goes a long way to keep these things alive. I'd use the same type of enamel(iirc. Which absolutely exact version - idk.) to refinish them. Oh, don't forget the cool pinstriping. I'm sure it's a requirement for long life, + those long cool stares from the hot chicks... :D .

    Thanks, wiz.
    I was wondering about that.
In fact, I've often wondered about the feasibility of applying automotive primer and paint to wood and if there are better options.
Actually, I'm most likely to let the beauty of the wood show through. Strip, dark stain and clear. I'll have to research to find out what type of clear is best to use in this instance.

I would recommend this. Used it many times on exterior wood, and it works great, but typically only last two years. Might last longer it you don't park your buggy outside year round, though. Don't go any glossier than Satin IMHO, and it does smell pretty bad, being oil-based:

    Yup. Thanks, Mr. Pinkerton.
I've always used urethane on my nice wood projects.
I'm just not so sure it's the best for wet environments.
Water can sometimes leave temporary or even permanent white spots on a nicely urethane-finished table.

Ford used some kinda enamel that wore forever. Look at the early teens stuff, think they may have used JapanDrier also, but it was a "flow-the-paint-onto-whatever-&-let-it-run-off-into-trays situation. Then let it harden, but it couldn't have taken too long, just due to sales volume. Wheels done similar, but ahead of time of course.
I've read of other mfgrs doings, of course, just don't remember where, whom, or what. The old car mags that covered this historical stuff are long-gone-dead. Cars n Parts was one, Old Cars was another. AACA probably has some good info on this. I'm not altogether convinced that new products/materials are *always* better, in every case.
I suppose you could put a resin coating that soaks into the wood(boats, decks, house frames[imposible-to-reach-locations] to offset the rot/decay - which I realize those wheels don't have, but would seal the pores/grain up real tight, 'till it starts to fail. One of the problems I found w/that stuff is, that it soaks wonderfully into soft/damaged wood, but hardly wets good wood. Endgrain soaks no matter what) on there, but I'd guess that it'd get hairline cracks from the flexing & w/o a solid paint to protect from UV, would die back quickly. & you'd be worse off than you were when you started. Before I used urethane, I'd use Caseys' gun-oil, or furnature tung-oil(lots, as in many, coats of this stuff - & that's a load of work. ;( ), anything that can be renewed as needed - 'cause they will. Maybe another type of paint would be the tar-based stuff, like used on some roofs, etc. No idea how long that would last.

Thanks, man. I'm grateful for encouraging words. It helps.

Actually though, I really haven't done hardly any work, good or otherwise LOL. A lot to do with me hanging out with doctors too much lately. But it did give me some time to plan and collect some parts, and that's good.

Just had another glitch, though. Another quick trip to the hospital a few days ago. Afib again. Racing irregular heartbeat. My spark plug wires are arcing. And it hadn't been dealt with yet. But coming up pretty soon, we're going to finally take care of it so this hopefully doesn't happen anymore.

They're gonna to do what they call an ablation. Sort of like when they orthoscopically insert a stent in the heart. Put a choke cable into an artery in the groin and up into the heart. They show the whole thing on large screen TV. My heart, the size of a bean bag chair. They're going to freeze/scar some tissue here and there to stop the random sparking.

    I gotta tell you something.
A couple of you have said I'm tough. I may have proven it this time around. Anybody here ever been defibrillated while awake?
They fkn did that to me.
All I can say about it is...
    Oh... my... GOD!
I might as well have fired up the welder, grounded my dick to the welding table and bit down on the working end. It was like a bolt of lightning went through me. My back arched like I almost jumped off the table. I saw a lightning ball in my brain!
It only lasted a second but it was the most violent and horrifying thing I've ever experienced. I'm not tough. I was almost crying. Looking at eight nurses looking at me. I said oh my God don't ever do that again! But I picked up that they were going to have to do it again. I was like oh no no. I heard a nurse say, we're going to give you a sedative. And I didn't even know they did it a second time until I found out later.

I'm home now. Taking it pretty easy. They gave me drugs to regulate my heart until the surgery.

The guy in Ohio who sold me the wood spoke wheels is hanging onto them until I'm up to making the drive.

I told the surgeon. Another good man from India. I need to get strong again to take care of Judy and the farm and the animals. Of course I was thinking, and build a hot rod! He said in slightly broken English...
    "We will get you there."

Sadly, sometimes things happen in threes...
Hopefully not simultaneously to the same guy/girl...
& you *did* have a bolt of lightning go thru you...
Not that you'd want to replicate it again, but... on the Avenger series(& spin-offs), that's how some get their powers.
    :D .
    & there're some here that'd say : "Pics(vids), or it didn't happen" :D . But not me. :D .
    Glad you're feeling better.
BTW; did you get any nurse-sympathy?

    All seriousness aside...
Since the body, muscles, nerves, & brain synapses use electrical impulses, I'd guess you might be noticing some things are just...different, even a little, subtly? Quietly pay attention to the way your cat or dog interacts w/you(if you have one), & how you think or what you notice in quiet moments. You might find it interesting. You may've had a slight brain, or body, "reset". Not kidding. It may take awhile to notice physiological changes, as they might be subtle too. Rather a lot like survivor(s) of lightning strikes, main-line voltage hits, etc. Electrical frequencies can heal, or hurt, block pain or cause it. I prefer Tesla over Edison... Don't think too highly of what has become the Hypocritical Oath. Hippocrates stated 1st Rule was; "1st, do *no* harm". That's kinda gone all the way to hell...

You're a better man than me, if that'd been done to me & I could still talk, about all I could've mustered was a weak barely audable; "If you ever do that again, I'll find you & help you experience the same thing". (Not bravado). Sadly, I'm short on capability for forgiveness at times, for certain things/attitudes. I'd say I can't believe they didn't know you were conscious before the Jolt & so would feel the whole effect, but I don't actually believe that. 8 of them + docs, & no-one thought that far ahead??? Woooww... I'd also be surprised(knock me over w/a feather) if any-one actually apologized afterwards. ;( .

Once you get the heart fixed & back on track, it'll take awhile to get your strength & endurance to where you feel really good, but it'll come. & you will feel a whole lot better. A friend had heart issues, that got fixed(his doc was from that same part of the world, iirc - did good), & he's no longer draggin' tail, is feelin' good, n happy about it.

    Peace...

    Marcus...

    Thanks, Marcus.

I did notice I'm smarter now.
But when the furnace clicks on I jump about a foot.

My heart started bouncing around again and they did it. But I thought they could do it with drugs. That's what they did other times. I asked why they didn't put me under to start with. I guess they felt my heart was too unstable for that.

Went to another floor for recovery and the surgeon visited me. The electrician. My nurse told him with eyes wide, that ICU zapped me while I was awake. The surgeon said he didn't know why they would do that. Then he looked at me and said...
"When people don't know, they panic. And when they panic it makes you panic.
If someone comes in here and tells you you're going to die, you laugh at them, roll over and go to sleep."

I'm feeling good. Stronger. Moved some things around in the garage yesterday so that Judy can park in there. Not a problem. Doctor said I can do light work.

You know, almost any old car project can make me smile.
But this old roadster project makes me laugh right out loud.
I am sooo itching to get started.

As I've done more research over the last months, trying to get a handle on which direction I want to go, it's as if I'm getting drawn further and further back in time.

I'm having ideas about a roadster with the spirit of a speedster but the heart of a hot rod.

A big-block 4spd speedster would be kinda wild and crazy.
    On the other hand...
If I go speedster, hopping up the original Dodge drivetrain would be antique cool.

    hey, Ricky;
The antique mill makes it. You can always do/re-do/finish the body to a later-era rod. Keep the 440 for a streetrod.
    :D .
If you're real-careful-like, w/just a few extra parts, you could end up w/2 hotrods outta this.

Katie's a good girl. Boxer and pit mix. A little high-strung since a puppy. Killed a couple chickens and a duck. But she's mellowing with age and a lot of lovin'. She's quite an athlete. Look at that chest. Lives to play Frisbee. Frisbee catcher extraordinaire. And an excellent guard dog. My stuff is safe as can be with her around.
