In St-Jovite (Mont-Tremblant), Québec...if I remember well, two Grand Prix races happens here in the sixties...
@Volksrob The serious photo is of a girl surfer waiting her turn to paddle out. The photo was taken in the Malibu region. There were only a few girls surfing at the time. Most of the girls surfing were from Long Beach to San Clemente. Hello, This array of photos is one I can’t let this go by without more information added for facts. original photo taken in 1963 by Leo H. The original photo shows a teen walking to a van… it certainly looks like my brother, who did not like to get his photo taken at any time due to his injuries/scars. Our friends from Long Beach (Lakewood + Long Beach) and our good friend from Seal Beach, “Barrymore.” They were in the group that surfed together from the Peninsula in Long Beach, (Seal Beach end) Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Dana Point and at one time or other “walked cautiously” into the jungle at the Camp Pendleton base surf spot. But it was documented with this old photo on one of our forays below the Baja California/Mexico border. Here is the complete original photo taken in Baja Mexico in 1963. It was on a bluff overlooking a great surf spot called 3 M’s (originally named for the 3 So Cal surfers who discovered the area in the very early surf explorations in Mexico. Mickey Munoz, Mickey Dora, and Mike Doyle) “Tres Emes” is what it is now called. Soon after we quit going to that surf spot due to massive pollution from a company processing effluent, folks still surfed there. The waves were so good and still are. But the pollution is awful. Now, it has popped up again in recent times due to another company building on the bluff and ruining the surf break. But, back then, friends in the water, the fun times around the camp fire and those stories told late into the night made those very long road trips from Long Beach worthwhile. YRMV Jnaki As far as that serious young girl in the photo, it certainly looks like Robin Calhoun, from Laguna Beach at the time. She comes from a family of a fabulous mom and sister who surf. It was intimidating when all three girls/women were out in the water at Laguna Beach’s Brooks Street surf spot. Sitting next to us and talking, while ripping the waves. It was their home court. She was a great surfer and all around athlete. Early skateboard whiz and all around water person. Leroy Grannis photo, Hawaii… older photo of Robin Calhoun on the far right.
